Need Help Importing Mustang!!!

people, people... go check the ford website. the fully spec-ed mustang is actually quite cheap. USD 27k or so, as compared to say, a humble 2.5L Z4 which retails for ard USD 34k.

so customs should value the OMV for the mustang at around hmm... SGD 45k-ish? that's nowhere near porsche territory.

then again a murcielago goes for GBP 168 000, which comes to just over half a million. yet it retails for over a million in S$. direct conversion? I don't think soooooo.

besides. handling wise, the mustang GT is also nowhere near porsche territory.

besides, the mustang GT manages 300 bhp from a 4.6l V8. the porsche basic 911 manages 321bhp from a 3.5l flat 6. the mustang is hardly THAT impressive when u look at it from this perspective is it? I'm not saying its not good, I'm saying the porsche is better.

S$1+million is about the right price even if you try to import.

GBP168 + GBP4 (estimate freight & insurance) +5%GST+ GBP168*110% (ARF) + GBP6.25(COE) = GBP370K = S$1,184K

[email protected], it only make sense for you to import a car if you can buy it at factory price. Or esle you will have to pay super high ARF. As for the Mustang, do they produce RHD model?

hmm. so far, don't recall any RHD mustang. and to be honest even if they did make them, he'd have to import them from UK, which means the car's already been shipped once to UK, and thus there is a middleman who will be making a profit from it. ultimately it's not going to make sense to bring in a Mustang. unless u're so bloody rich and u really really want the car bad.

i was referring to this statement. i never mentioned anything about which car is better etc, i referred only to the cost of the cars.

Again i will say, mustangs do not cost anywhere near ferraris and porsches. from reading the threads on this forum i know you probably won't admit it, but i'll say it anyway: you are wrong.

OMV is loosely based on the invoice price of the vehicle plus shipping fee. the murcielago if retailing for GBP 168k would translate to an OMV of ard SGD500k.

add 110% ARF, 20% customs tax, 5% GST, COE plus misc fees and you'll arrive at the price tag of over a million. While you can't calculate the exact local car price based on overseas car prices, they are usually a good indicator of the relative cost of the car in singapore.

like i said, msrp of Mustang is USD 27k, msrp of 2.5L Z4 is USD 34k. the Z4 retails for SGD 200k here, the self-imported mustang is therefore likely to cost below this.

I don't know of any new porsches or ferraris that can be had for below SGD 200k. Do you?

Even they build the RHD, I dont think anyone other the americans living overseas will buy them. USA Car = Junk (Except maybe a few of them)

250k ought to be enough, but if it isn't i think you should abandon the idea. is your budget inclusive of first year insurance and road tax?

depending on your age, driving experience and insurance policy, insurance might sap a good portion of your budget. i'm 23 and was quoted over 8k annual premium for my car, premium for the gallardo is around 25k, mustang for you should fall somewhere in between if you're around my age. road tax should be around 6k for the mustang's V8.

lastly, if i were you, i'd spare myself the trouble and just appoint a parallel importer to do the legwork for me. they'll probably charge you fees of 5k-10k. even better, tell regent motors your budget and see if they'll import it for you, that way, you'll enjoy agent servicing and the benefits of the warranty.
