the Bear SG in the past, there was Big Muskie (which is now gone to scrapyard heaven), an open dragline excavator which was so huge, it was almost beyond belief... it walked with 2 hydralic "feet" and could move 39 million pounds of earth and rock an hour.. check out the size of the bucket in the middle pic and compare it to the whole thing and imagine the size of Big Muskie Big Muskie was built at a staggering cost (then) of US$25 million in 1969 and was dismantled in 1999 now, we have THIS huge machine in Germany... built by Krupps, this monster costs about US$100 million and weighs in at 45,500 tons! it is about 3 times the size of Big Muskie! staggering aren't they?
the Bear SG uh.. this digging machine is 95m high and 215m long, and is 45,500 tons it's taller than the plane is wide
the Bear SG yeah.. but it can move.. at 45,500 tons, that's about the weight of a building you should have a look at how Big Muskie moved.. there were no tracks so it had to WALK
photo_seeker SG It’s a huge machine. I wonder how do they move it around ? Or is it being built at the Mining Site ?
the Bear SG the first has 2 hydralic "feet" which it "walks" on from site to site.. the 2nd, well, hey.. there are tracks
laurence82 SG Krupps were also the people who built the largest artilleries during WW1 and WW2 Check out one of their famous one, the Big Bertha http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Bertha_%28Howitzer%29 and the infamous Paris Gun http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_Gun
