Just last week, there was an article on the newspaper that says Taxi drivers are involved in the bulk of the accident on Singapore road (despite only making up 4% of the vehicle on the road?).

Last night at around 10pm, driving to Woodlands on BKE.

Typical night after a long day at work... the information board above reading "ACCIDENT ON LANE 3". I told myself, "just another accident". Saw the police car and lights, drove pass... and...

a motorbike down on the road... 10 metres in front was a taxi... just in front of a taxi was a dead body. Two policemen were holding up a white plastic sheet, trying to shield the sight from the public eyes.

I ride too, so it's very disturbing... This man/woman was probably riding home after a long day's work but he/she is now dead.

Sorry for behaving this way, it has been a while since I last saw a dead motorbike rider out in the open. For all I know, he could be a friend of ours.

I am not judging the taxi driver, he probably didn't see it coming. I myself drive tired at times and I came close to touching bikers too. We must remember, one touch on them, their skin will be on the road; how serious, depends...

I urge all readers to give bikers some respect, if not take into the consideration that, if given a choice, they want to drive too (like myself).

but sometimes... the m/cyclist like to hide in the cars blind spot or ride near the side of a car... but the worse will be those trying to squeeze in and out of traffic at fast speed.. all it needs is a car to shift lane.. *bonk*.. another bites the dust... I, myself have run over m/cyclist feet at traffic lights before.. put the leg so close to the car tyres.. Rolling Eyes

Drive defensively... if bobian, den too bad for those youngsters. Many thinks they fast... cool, swave. i can say tt there are minority of riders simply just deserve a lesson. Then they'll realise. i believe they dun read newspapers... but even then, their frens probably told them about the news...

Ever seen 3 bikers racing past me at SLE... on empty roads... tts way too dangerous. they were racing with one another!!! to me, only one word for them.

bikers pay road tax too… we haf 2 respect them on road but then some bikers dun respect other road user… but of coz this apply 2 cars n lorry n other drivers… itz every1 responsibility 2 make driving/riding a safe n pleasant….

i respect certain bikers.. however bikes are only allowed to use the left lane.. some use the right lane and travel so slow..

and at traffic lights, they cant stay in between the lane.. the must go infront of ur car and when the green light comes, they accelerate so slowly..

True! Most bikers complained about cars not giving way. But when you ask them where they are riding, it is usually in between lanes. I didn't get a bike license, so I don't know what they actually teach there. Do they teach riding in between lanes and cars?

When I argued that that is not supposed to be the way to ride, then my friend say that is the result people get bike, to sway in and out of Jams.

I only learn recently that you want to go fast, you better be prepared to stop in time, the hard way. But this way will usually be the last thing the bikers learn. E-brake at 50km/h would already flip the bikes, imagine what it is like at 100km/h.

my friend also died, sob. ride a bike to chase a bmw. end up the bmw move out to fliter lane, my friend go crash onto another lancer. =.= fly loh… then die.. multiple frature, helmet gone… ribs broken.. legs broken.. send in hospital.. died 2hrs later… all of us in hospital eyes red red.

always sad to hear stuff like this..... i had a friend who died after skidding and crashing into a lamp post. body wrapped the lamp post. he was married for less then half a year and i was one of his bruddas somemore. his young wife cried until eyeballs gonna drop out. Crying or Very sad

sad to say, unlike ur fren, some motorcyclists did not choose to court their own death. being responsible in ur riding habits and observing lane discipline is the key to a higher survival rate, but it'll never be fool proof. unfortunately, from wat i observe on the roads, there are still several riders who dun even observe the basics and squeeze in between cars as and when they could juz to get a few vehicles ahead. but when sh!t happens, regret also no use liao.

sometimes its not always biker's fault...every little dust/sand on the road could cost them their lives....

I have seen dead bikers on the road….twice…...I think the main diff between driving and riding is…....drivers, when driving carefully, are normally safer as they are well shielded by their cars…........but bikers, even when riding safely, are still at the mercy of other drivers…...one touch…..fly…......sad to say…...even though bikes are more danderous….i still observe more bikers who are more “hiong” than many drivers…....maybe goota do with the profile of most bikers…..young men mainly

I have a fren who have a bike can car licence. Hr drives a lau pok car and quite a good bike. I think I agree with him.

What he says is that because he has driven both, he knows how each party feels. I think Bikers should never do the following 2 things:

1) stay so close to the car in front (esp at nite). At nite its most dangerous as if you stay so close that the car cannot see ur headlight in the mirror, u are going to die if he just tap the brake and u cant blame him cos he cant see u.

2) Stop riding in between 2 lanes. This should be done only when overtaking. Otherwise stay in middle of one lane just like a car would do. Riding in the middle of the lane causes uncertainty for the cars because they do not know whether to proceed as they scare will kena u. It may also cause them to sway and waver in their own lanes. It causes stress to the drivers.

One thing is certain. Everyone wants to live and be on the road safely. Sometimes u cannot blame anyone if bikers die. On the road, it is no longer who is wrong or right. To put it across, who have more to lose? I knock u down, i get to live. But u die. It is not being Kuai Lan or what but this is a reality. If bikers realise this fact, then they should ride safely and patiently and not make their families worry for them.

I am a biker since 1997 till now still riding. And I also driver since 1998 till now still driving. I would say that those bikers that travel in the center of two lanes and travelling at snail speed is the most irritating. Even I am riding bike, I find it difficult to over take them and it is too slow to follow behind.

When I am riding bike, I always travel slightly faster than the traffic flow of cars. It is safe to travel slightly faster than cars. But not speeding or tail gating please.

When I am driving, I am the kitten of the road. I always give way to bikers and pedestrians who always pretend they cannot see my car and slowly walk across the road. The more I slow down, the slower they walk.
