Singtel’s just increased their mobile data speed around
the island by 50% .
The telco has launched a 450Mbps 4G LTE-Advanced
service which is available to all Singtel 4G customers at no extra
charge.
If you’re wondering how fast 450Mbps actually is, it
means you’ll potentially be able to download a HD movie to your
mobile device in under two minutes.
The caveat is that the speed boost is only compatible
with selected handsets at the moment — namely the Samsung Galaxy S7
and S7 Edge. It will also be available on the LG V20 with an
upcoming software update.
Singtel also plans to progressively upgrade its network
speeds up to 1Gbps at selected high-traffic locations from next
year.
If you’re not a Singtel user, M1 has mentioned that
customers can expect download speeds of up to 1Gbps islandwide in
the second half of this year when it launches its Heterogeneous
Network.
StarHub has been testing new network technologies that
offer gigabit data speeds, and will deploy them when more supported
phone models become available.
