NDU SG welcome IAF... but i mention this before and some of them dont agree with me as they said indo will never be able to whack us but... what i post just now was what i was told before the EX cheers
Joe Black SG Its is not even an SU. It has the twin UHF blades just behind the cockpit (ie. it was an ex-USN A-4B (aka A-4S-1 in RSAF designation) rather than the current ex-USN A-4C that SU is based on). It hasn't got the radar warning receiver under the nose, no new HUD, no air-to-air refuelling probe and no side protruding inlet on the air intake for cooling F404 among other things. I bet this is a pre-upgrade A4 that has been condemn to static display and ground training purposes.
Viper52 SG Sorry Joe Black, I meant to reply to your message but I edited it instead. I've edited back to look like your original post. Profuse apologies! Not trying to censor anyone here!! Anyway, the ex A-4Bs are not redesignated A4S-1s, they were called A-4S, which is what the one in my picture above is. You're right that its been condemned to being a ground instructional airframes, but she and the museum examples are the lucky ones, I've seen those dumped in the scrapyard in Jurong The A4S-1s were all ex A-4Cs and were the ones later re-engined and upgraded to A-4SUs. See the article in the URL below The Singapore Skyhawk Story
Joe Black SG No problem You are right, the designation for the A-4B were A-4S and not A-4S-1. I typed without thinking about it too much. It is good to see that the Skyhawks are still doing well in the most recent Cope Thunder exercise in Thailand. I read some reports from the USAF where pilots were saying that the RSAF skyhawks were tricky opponents. The camoflage scheme and the low flying kept out skyhawks pretty hard to spot. They are also up with the americans in air combat. I wonder how the rest did though. I hope the 8 Vipers give the Yanks a run for their money. Hopefully claiming a few "fox-2"s.
