Good place to see all kinds of historical stuff. It’s next to Paya Lebar Air Base. From Eunos MRT take 94 into Airport Rd.

Nice place, although a couple of omissions that would have really made the place a whole lot better, namely;

- The Shorts Skyvan 3M
- The RSAFs 2-seat Hunter T.75As with the fantastic sharkmouth (below)

Oh well, such is the price when we fail the see beyond dollars and cents when it comes to our heritage (in this case our military heritage) and get rid of it without a 2nd thought.

The ones who gain at our expense are the private collectors who gain an important part of aviation history.

Not to mention, you could see the bloodhounds! (long range SAMS) I heard it could fly as far as penang... although it probably isn't militarily useful as a surface to surface missile...

You could see the old UAVs hanging in the ceiling...

Their associated ancient electronics are on the second floor. You can also see the ancient radars, an early sidewinder (inert round but has the rollerons!) 30mm cannons, rusty jet engines...

However be advised that the second floor has very erratic opening hours...

Unfortunately, they don't have a flight simulator for the public to play around with... Crying or Very sad

No idea, but I think they junked that one and put another 2 restored carcasses at the new museum. I remember passing the old museum and seeing some of the exhibits still there some time after the new one opened.

Unfortunately, still no 2-seaters, my records showed that all either crashed or were sold to a Hunter nut in Australia and a couple were then sold on by him to private owners/museums in the USA and NZ

I actually went to the airport just out of Brisbane where the guy who bought the Hunters from the RSAF was restoring them, saw a Recon bird almost fully restored and a 2 seater (with sharkmouth) being worked on.

You're right about the UAVs, interestingly never knew we used the Mastiff UAV. And theres also a Cessna 172 hanging on the ceiling

Other planes there include a UH-1B, Alouette III (a recent addition), T-33, Strikemaster, SIAI SF.260, TA-4S nose section and Scout UAV.

The museum is closed on Mondays. An alternative is to take Bus 90 from Toa Payoh Interchange or MacPherson Rd

Now if they could get hold of a Hunter 2-seater and Skyvan... Wink

I would like to pay a visit. Is it open to the public. Can I just walk straight in without a invitation.

Can I bring my camera along.

It is open to the public, one can just walk in. I have been there a few times, and whenever I have nothing to do, I go there Mr. Green

I don't know of any restrictions about cameras... But it is a museum anyways, so I guess there isn't.

The curator there seems to be very friendly as well! When I was there for the first few times, one of them greeted me very cheerfully and offered to show me around.

Cameras are allowed in the museum itself, although remember not to be caught pointing it through the access gate to the taxiway.

It is interesting though, the last time I was there, there was a group of trainee teachers being brought there on some National Education field trip and they were told "No cameras allowed" by the organisers (not the RSAF). My friend was actually ticked off by the trainees minder(a Army woman WO) because she thought he was a trainee teacher (he was not) and he was snapping pics. He actually ticked her off back and then further embarassed her later when he told the WO off for letting some of her charges lean against the aircraft exhibits despite the words "No step" and "No push" painted all over the planes.

Priceless was the look on the WOs face! Laughing

Heard that during the 80s there's a unit called the Air Photo Unit. Perhaps this is where the Mastiff UAV came in?
