Gwangetto SG i'm ok with angmoh's english. just dun add that aussie accent can liao. their accent very hard to understand sia.
elindra SG I have real problems trying to understand the Scottish accent. Then again I don't feel so bad after my Canadian Ang Mo colleague asked me on the side if that guy is speaking English because he couldn't understand a word
field SG i can even understand vietnam farmers speaking english. whats so hard about listening to ang moh speak english
Gwangetto SG vietnamese and ang mohs diff. vietnamese is venglish. ang moh english is solid english sia. dun pray pray..
SGpork SG indians usually still ok.. just sometimes cannt catch..either too fast or they talk machiam like rapping..
CryoLind SG oh..check out those from Yugoslavia or any-slavia...lotsa 'ssshh' sound..like got losta saliva...
CryoLind SG so far mostly ang moh i spoke with ...they understand what i'm talkin bout. As long as we dun add the lah, lei, lor in..n try to pronounce properly.. a British frd said i sms the same as they did over there.. short form n such.
fymk SG depends on where the brits came from - liverpudian english is horrid so is cockney. Australians- are alright - I don't have a problem with them. They do have a problem with me because they say I talk too fast. Even australia has people speaking in different accents- you have the south aussie accent, the queenslanders who always attach a prefix of -hay to all their sentences , victorian accent which is known to be haughty and closest to the british accent, the sydney siders accent and the western australians. I love the scottish and irish accents - it is all sing song. Whhharr ays mahh brackkie ( where is my brekkie aka breakfast) haha.
gohkatkat SG french people's accent is still okay......i can still grasp.......but when you hear the australian......the glued tongue.......seems as though they have some tongue tied instances where their words stumble down the road......seems as though they have such a huge body......so much that they can't balance themselves................but i think the british people are much better........next the americans...............just nice and just right.........unlike the australian...........
hellomotosxq SG it is really a very funny topic . Don't really understand angmoh's english???????????????????? funny !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 yeah .
ShrodingersCat SG Actually the Australians talk this way because of the huge flies they have in summer... I mean, imagine pronouncing the word 'today' as TO-DEH vs... aussie 'TO-DIE' your mouth open less for TO DIE right?
Gordonator SG here in singapore, some of us might be proficient in a single language, like english but the majority are english half bucket, chinese also half bucket. this is worrying.
UandMe SG true! My english sucks and i used to be much better in chinese. But after JC, i no longer touch much chinese materials except for occasional comics and newspapers. Now my chinese sucks as much as my english. Having english as ur stronger language is definitely more beneficial here.
Kuali Baba SG Watch motorsports. You'll hear English spoken in French, German, Finnish, Italian, Japanese and a few British accents. It exists to a lesser extent in football too. Or listen to the BBC World Service (88.9FM).
centrum8 SG it takes time to get used to angmoh's accent, but it will only take less than one month if you got chance to talk to them more, you will be fine. I don't have any problem talking to angmohs...
