i am not viewing..but if she mention about the entry requirements to a JC being far more stringent as compared to poly it is about the O level cert..

and based on this, she says the JC students are better..which is obviously a fallacy..better in studying yes cause they work harder..but u seriously think for a moment that she is driving in that direction?

den she talks about singapore best and brightest..don't try to deny that fact, but she is indirectly or directly saying that by better it means smarter/brighter.

like i said,majority of the poly students are those engineering/IT/design, no offence here,but it is that those courses are quite easy to get in..and if u were to look at the far more "hot" courses,quite a huge number would be what people tend to call the "Jc rejects"..

In general u say, that is the whole point why this JC Poly debate comes about.
because people generalize that JC students are "better"..and why so? becuz of an O level cert it seems..if u tell me yes they are better because they have a far higher chance of entering the uni den yes..

But in that sense like what someone has pointed out earlier,it should have been a comparison between Uni and Poly the pros and the cons..the brains and the hands etc..

Singapore's so called best may be the brightest .. but only in their own domain. After all, if you're a R&D scientist, then you're the best and brightest in your own domain.

She makes no mention of any other aspects of character or education to quantify a general term such as "better".

PSC's criteria lists one's A-level results as the only academic criteria. Does that mean only A-level students are the cream of the crop?

After all it makes more sense to give scholarship to someone who has shown he/she can perform. Let's say I give scholarship to poly student. Wait he cannot go uni how?

erm .. dun need you to believe .. facts have shown to be true. Wink After all so many poly grads go to uni and graduated, sometimes with good honours.

I always feel there's no need to feel angry or insulted over such an article. If you're a poly student and really good, there is still a chance to prove yourself in university. You can graduate with good honours and take a PhD scholarship .. why not?

That depends on which course you are taking..

Try telling the people in electrical engineering/chemical engineering or even the peeps in school of computing that "JC life is more siong than university life".. Laughing

During my 2nd year, my friends in arts showed me their timetable. On average, they only need to attend 4-5 hours of lectures/tutorials for the whole week. When I showed them my slave-like (8 to 8 timetable schedules) they nearly fainted...
