What does 10 x 25 means on a binoculars

pierre^^ SG

As above. What does 10×25 means? Which one is the zooming power

dork3d SG

Kinda forgot which is which liao... Pardon me if me's wrong, 10x25 means 10x zooms by 25m...

Icemoon SG

magnify 10 times, using objective lens of 25mm.

I'm quite knowledgeable about binos since I did astronomy last time.

What do you want to know about binos? Very Happy

MrFugue SG

10 x 25 means the zooming function can last you to see 250 metres ahead

my bino is 12X25… small and compact…. but it also says “251FT/1000yds” “84m/1000m” what does these numbers mean?

pierre^^ SG

70mm (3") Aperture (objectivelenght) - Focal Lenght: 400mm. Accessories include: 25mm H Eyepiece (12x), 12mmH Eyepiece (30x) and Focuser, achieve magnification from 15x to 400x withexisting accessories

then what does this means???

So i can see 250metre ahead with 10x25 ?

actually i more interested in how good is the zoom .

pierre^^ SG

eh 25 means 25 m or 250m sia??? got 2 ans here

Icemoon SG

You want to kid me ah?

You're describing to me a telescope lah.

pierre^^ SG

ya, i also asking u abt telescope. whats the big diff abt these 2

Icemoon SG

hmm .. this one I'm not too sure 'cos these numbers are not important in astronomy.

should be something related to the field of view bah.

Icemoon SG

Telescope can zoom further and you can change eyepieces and fit accessories.

Also more expensive.

Ponders SG

In a pair of binoculars...

10x = 10 times magnification

25 = 25mm (the objective lens), bigger it is, the brighter your image. This diameter is usually the outer most lens in most binoculars.

25 usually for compact bino

38-44 for bigger non-prism bino.

50 and up.... prism bino usually for serious use or marine use.

who said 25 is 250m? haha... what happens at 251m? image black out?

pierre^^ SG

then 10 x 25 means can see 25 m ahead? or 250 m ahead? coz ur explanation is very chim.

and in terms of zooming distance

10x30 or 8x50 can zoom more powerful?

Icemoon SG

both wrong lah.

Should be 25mm objective lens.

If you go measure the front lens, should be around 2.5 cm right?

Icemoon SG

Ponders gave a good explanation of the various terms.

of course the 10x zoom more powerful, but the 10x30 might not be better 'cos you have a smaller field of view.

pierre^^ SG

orh. so inclusion, 10×30 is the zooming more power where 8×50 is though the zooming not so gd, but ur view is bigger. wahaha thks

This guy bino is 980x25 !!!

how can that be?? 980 still so small size oni?

Icemoon SG

yah. simply because the 8x50 has a bigger lens in front.

Don't get those high zoom but small lens one. (like 20x30) .. 'cos zooming already make your field of view smaller liao, and if your lens is small then you may have difficulty seeing things.

Ponders SG

Because its a Tasco brand. haha. So they want to fool ppl who dunno much about Bino.

It's like Digicam.. where they advertise cameras by megapixels and mulitplication of zoom.... but to a advance amatuer or advanced novice... they know this numbers means nothing.
