Singaporeans With Spanish/ Mexican Names

Hi,

Why do some Singaporeans have Spanish names? Like D'Cruz, or Perreira, or Cortez.

I notice they sometimes look Chinese, sometimes look Eurasian/ abit Caucasian blood in the heritage, and sometimes there are Indians.

Are they descendants of Eurasians last time? But I thought Singapore has never become a Spanish colony? How come end up with all this D'Cruz, Perreira, Cortez? In the olden times, there was a Spanish/ Mexican community?

Look up Singapore's history, Raffles once made it a free port for tradings. And it is a place where the West and East of 19 century will meet up and trade. Also, Spain was a European big player in trades at that time. So basically you can find all kinds of people from different parts of the world. Some settle down, and eventually married across the race. End of story Wink
