Rapid Deployment force

I recall that some time ago, there was some mention about a creation of a rapid deployment force similar to that of the 101 Airborne division for the army and the Marines for the navy which will comprise of only regular troops. What do you think will the size of the force what sort of equipment they will have. Btw is the 8000 troops for the combined force a fair figure?

So far I think that the force created will be similar to that of the UK Rapid deployment force which will have

1) Apache Attack Helo
2) Chinook Medium Lift Helo
3) Super Puma Helo (for landing troops)
4) 105mm mobile artillary
5) 155 mm sel propelled artillary
6) Light strike vehicles
7) tanks???

btw, does the 101 Airborne operate tanks?

I don't really understand your question.

Do you mean to say that SAF wants to create a RDF?

If you meant the SAF, I seriously do not think that the SAF could afford to have 8000 regulars in a single military formation, RDF or non-RDF?

For a 8,000 strong formation, definitely need some NSFs and NSmen to beef up.

erm. . . what will be the RDF be for? I dun think singapore even needs an RDF. . . not such a large one anyway. . .sound kinda like almost everything from the RSAF supporting the army. . . whats gonna happen to the rest of the army

The 101st Airborne Division may not have heavy tanks like the Abrams…since the 101st is an Air Assault unit, deployed mainly using helicopters to move in their troops…the only true parachuting unit in the US is the 82nd Airborne Div.

Agree. I don't think any copter can airlift a M1!

seems like the US like their m1 so much.

but then again, read a report on newpaper today , they were sayin that mostly of those in the US forces are still in their early 20s compare to those in iraq who are mostly 1991 gulf war vets.
