The Stig is the "mystery driver" of the popular BBC car-show Top
Gear. All shots of him show the same racing overall (originally
black, later white) and a helmet (with matching colours), never
revealing his true identity. His job on the show is to drive
various supercars around the Top Gear test track. The times he sets
with those cars are kept on a scoreboard, which acts of a list of
the hottest cars of the moment.
The Easy listening music he supposedly listens to in the car is a
perennial source of amusement and fun for the main
presenters.
While the Stig obviously has a racing background, his true identity
has never been revealed, or even hinted at, by the Top Gear
presenters. However, once Perry Macarthy's book, Flat Out, Flat
Broke, was published it became clear that he was the original Stig.
Macarthy was a former Formula 1 driver and test driver for the
Benetton, Arrows and Williams teams.

At the beginning of the fourth series of Top Gear the original Stig
(Macarthy) was "killed off" prompting the change of dress and
music. His replacement is widely believed to be Ben Collins, an
experienced single seater and Sportscar driver.
