Unreasonable COE price in Singapore

It's obviously that a 1.6 litres above car will consume more
fuel, produce more pollution, the size is bigger and occupy more
space whenever it park or moving.
Then such car should pay more fee than the bolow 1.6 litres cars.

The government can simply reduce above 1.6 litres car COE amount,
and increase the below 1.6 litres COE, such a simple thing, why it
so difficult to do?

in the first place, COE itself is bullsh|t.

its like 99 years housing lease. on one hand, they justify land as scarce. on the other hand, they wanna increase population.

without COE... then i will be having traffic jam from my house carpark... But to me i think roadtax should be the same.. how can a 1.6L car have cheaper road tax... the parking lot is the same size the road is the same size.. even the car is almost the same size... Very Happy

in economics, we learn demand and supply. market equilibrium and stuff..

the gov made 1.6 and below higher is because 80% of the cars on road now is all 1.6 and the gov wants to reduce that. by doing so, less pple will buy 1.6 but buy 1.8/2.0 and above cars.

one of the reasons behind higher petrol discounts in sg is because the gov also want more 2.0 cars on the road because the FC is rather high.

1) pollution is addressed from road tax. thats why 3001cc diesel is paying ($3,050 + 2.0 x (3001 3,000) ) *6

2) COE is tied to market forces, means more pple buy, price go up. apparently got alot of ppl buying 1.3L and 1.5L cars lately. thats why go up.

3) Also the same reason no one goes for 2L cars coz the same ppl wont be able to afford it. these are the same groups who take 10 yr loans.

4) IMHO, LTA should give a different COE class to 1.4, 1.5,1.6 coz i believe there are more < 1.6L car owners nowadays. thus making it quite unfair to 1.6L owners.

but then again. this is sigapure.

I agree the government should maintain the total quota of COE,
but just change the quota from 1.6 above group to another group,
then there should be a balance point where 2 groups prices match.
