Compulsory Stand in worker for Reservist man

I came back last week from my 3 weeks reservist ... as usual I came back to my horror the pile of works I that has been built up up during my absence.

I am now working everyday till wee hours of the morning to clear these backlog... cos no body were employed to cover my duties during my reservist..

I think Garment should made it compulsory to employ temp worker to cover reservist like us who sweat it out in the field and still have to be come back to clear our works accumulate during our reservist. on top of that "I have to enterrain the numerous call from my customer during my reservist .. it so unfair

We are after all not paid by employer during reservist.. so now its like we are doing double job with just one pay. The employer only stand to benefit from our reservist.. and we gonna F cos we could clear our works

anyone agreee they should insistute the law to make it compulsory to employ worker to cover our duty...

Yeah, i am in your shoes before, reservist can really ruin us and make us mentally strain…First you have to go for in camp training, which already causes us to be mentally and physically tired….Secondlly, after reservist, you found out that you have load of work to do (just like your case). So can the goverment pls end our misery by ending reservist service or at least minimum the service from once a year to one call up per 5 yr.

I agree with this...some companies do assign backups to each other in case the other goes on leave...reservist...etc...

if ur company doesnt...also not the govt fault...its just that ur company doesnt have this policy and its up to U to suggest to ur own company...I am sure we wouldnt want the govt to be babysitting us too much right?

and...by the way....the straits times reported today that there is a doctor who is in trouble for declaring that he hired a locum while he was in reservist and claiming money from MINDEF....so I THINK MINDEF does provide financial support for the employers to find people to cover ur work...just that ur company doesnt do it...because its difficult to employ/train people for 3 weeks...and its equally difficult to get ur colleagues to cover for U...

I felt that our goverment should give us a bonus of how much we earn per month which is pay us double of what we earn when we are serving reservist…..

I know its the employer responsibiltiy becos there are no law forcing the company to do so .. so they just take advantage fo the situation... for my company its possible to do so to tarin pple just that they dun bother !

isn't it the government who introduce the flexi-pay policy. We have to slog out the same amount of work each month in order to get the same pay.

Me dispute this as a matter of fact.

ICT notice was sent out to NSman at least 6 months beforehand for highkey ICT and at least 3 months for lowkey ICT.

The preference of the 6 months and 3 months window period is for you as employee to inform your employer on your term of ICT service, thus you and your employer can work out a basis of delegating your work to your fellow colleagues and better understanding.

It's also your duty to keep work on going for the company by handing over and getting your colleagues to oversee and followup on your outstanding issues. The company also can't just wait for you and some tasks that you are handling could add up.

Me's a key appointment holder in my company, and me always make it a point to finish my work and delegate issues to my fellow colleagues during my absence. Allocation and delegation are important as they are part of effiective time management.

Needless to say... I have drawn a list of thing to follow up and conduct a proper handover before I go... however my colleague are already drowning will they have the time to cover your duties ...fat hope! Today Mgt advocate a lean team and they believe in cost effective multi tasking ... a man cando what 3 mens use to do

Sometime its not because of time management almost everything is urgent and important ... hope some of you can identify with me... some boss will drop a bombshell on you .. a last min assigment or work or attend to emergency crisis

actually i pity my ICT mate who are in the sales line ...who lost their sales cos they come for their ICT ...which sometimes means losing a lot $$$ and even costing them their job!!

The point is the Govt forces you to go for reservist and does not exercise basic responsiblity to protect you. Coys are profit making organizations. They will not do anything that will hurt their profits. It is therefore up to govt to legislate or to impose some other measures to deal with the problem.

But you can't -make- your employer do anything. You can discuss and plan all you want, but if your employer refuses to help you, then you are in deep trouble. Similarly, you cannot -make- your colleagues do anything.

Maybe that me've got a very good CO for my reservist unit. In the midst of ICT, me could apply timeoff to sort out my work and then return back. If not, me can arrange with unit to report in on a later date during the stated ICT or release early.
