Tattoos are one of those things you dont want to get wrong.
Meaningful, well executed body art is beautiful, a drunken impulse
is not. A tattoo that sits well on a person is much like a
fantastic pair of jeans. Wearing your art on your skin takes a
certain amount of courage. People are always going to look, they
are always going to make certain assumptions. Sometimes, these
assumptions will be silly and inconvenient, as when a potential
employer baulks at giving you a job because he thinks only
criminals and sailors have tattoos.
Given that body art is such a public means of self expression, one
can only admire those fearless souls who take it up with such
gusto. God knows you've got to be comfortable with your identity
before having your upper torso permanently etched. Probably, this
is why so many people choose the wuss approach to body art, which
is to have a smallish tat placed in a spot that's easily covered.
For girls, this may mean the inner ankle and that lovely bit that's
covered up by the top of one's knickers. Naturally, girls have a
bit more to think about in this regard given that various bits of
their bodies are likely to morph dramatically over the course of
their lives.
Obviously, body art is a highly personal thing, whats right for
some people may well be hopelessly inappropriate for others.
Finally, a bad fringe grows out, but a misplaced tat is
forever!
