$1b renewal for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC
Young and growing Pasir Ris-Punggol will undergo $950 million worth
of renewal works over the next five years. Yesterday, a travelling
exhibit of the plans started making its rounds to residents.
.
The amount earmarked for Singapore's second-largest Group
Representation Constituency (GRC) overshadows that of other towns,
including the bigger and older Sembawang GRC.
.
About $700 million will go towards building new homes, mostly in
the Punggol 21 and Buangkok areas. Another $150 million will be
spent on new amenities such as sports complexes and park
connectors, while improvements to transport and infrastructure will
cost $100 million.
.
Other developments, such as a mega retail warehouse complex for
Pasir Ris and a seafood village at Punggol Point, will materialise
if there is sufficient commercial interest.
.
The plans show "how Punggol 21 is moving close to its P21 vision",
MP Penny Low told her Punggol North ward's residents yesterday at a
family fiesta also attended by fellow MPs, Defence Minister Teo
Chee Hean and Dr Michael Lim. The other MPs of the five-member GRC
Mr Charles Chong and Mr Ahmad Magad were overseas.
.
Asked whether Mr Chong would contest the upcoming elections, Mr Teo
said: "That's a decision for the Prime Minister to make."

I can't understand how the spending of 700 million bucks on
building new homes (most prob HDB) flats can be equated to
"renewal" for a 10 years old GRC.
To me renewal should only refers to the 150 m on new amenities such
as sports complexes and park connectors, and improvements to
transport and infrastructure.
Am I the only one who feel disconnected to PAP's ideology?
What is your opinion on the 700 m? Should that be counted as
renewal or another way for gahmen to make more money (700 m to
build HDB flats that sells for 1,000 m)?
