What to do if somebody is tapping on your phoneline??

If it's really tapping of your phone line, he could be in deep troubles.

Ok, recently, I noticed that there is this weird clicking noise everytime when I have a conversation with anybody on the phone. The clicking noise is what I believed to be a sign that somebody is tapping on my phoneline and recording the conversations. All my friends have heard the noise and ask me if Im recording their conversations....Even my parents have heard the noise but they cant do anything about it.

I have a few suspects in mind. But without any concrete evidence, I cant go to the police. Is there anyway I can check to determine who is making the recording? Also, is it possible for somebody to meddle around with the telephone riser or attach a device there that enables to do a conversation recording?

Most recording devices actually beeps instead of the clicking sound.

I can't advise much because if there is no external device being attached to your house phone, the recording cannot take place at all, more ever the clicking sound. You can try changing another deskphone and see whether the sound persist. It might not be a recording but some fault with your phone line. Call up Singtel/Starhub to ask them to check your telephone line signal strength.

If you hear a clicking sound at the start of the conversation, most likely. Halfway through conversation, call Singtel.

But nowadays, tapping is quite discrete, most people don't detect it.

Pretty uncommon to have phone line tapping in singapore...dun think its legal by the way....U can call up singtel and see how they can help you....if not can see if U can get an electrician to check ur physical phone wire to the common phone exchange room in ur block(if U are staying in HDB)...the room should be locked...so ur electrican can't get in...but neither can whoever is trying to tap ur line...unless singtel is the one tapping? Yup. I have tried out 3 different hadnsets, and all produce the same clicking sound. This worried me. My current handset is a singtel set. Neutral

Ok. I think to help you guys understand better, I shall disclose more info about the guy I suspect.

Recently, for the past few months, I got myself involve in my estates affairs. I attended council meetings and I found out alot of shit and politicking going on in my MC. Unfortunately, one of them didnt like me as I was seen to be "meddling too much".

The guy I suspect has close connections with the telecoms people. One of the council members has also told me that she hears this weird clicking noise and also warn me to be careful of that suspect. I know that the suspect hates her.

You opened up your handset. Try to find some small round magnetic device. Remove it. Then try calling. If cannot call, put back the device. If there's nothing in the handset, buy a new telephone. It's quite cheap nowadays. If not, use public telephone or pre-paid cards for handphone.

and check yr phone box wire..
usually the tappping device is there..
but u better not..

Yah...I suspect it is something to do with the telephone riser....but the door to it is lock isnt it? But like I said, the suspect has close ties to the telecoms people, he can easily get someone to do it.

The other thing is direct tapping from the phone box, which you cannot do anything already. But you can call Singtel and enquiry about this clicking sound. It could be due to your phone-box not functioning well.
