It doesn’t mean that people with same surnames are related right? I mean there couldn’t be just 1 ancestor with 1 surname to begin with. If there are only 100 Chinese surnames in the world, there couldn’t possibly be only 100 guys to carry on their family lines.

Actually I think both sides can marry, but only 'biao mei/biao ge', not 'tang mei/tang ge'. That is, your father's sister's child, or mother's sister's child. Not sure about the genes.. anyone knows?
