It is the student's responsibility to find out what the course is about before making the decision to put it as one of the choice. That is what the JAE is for.

how bout u didnt do well enuff to get into the course u wanted..u looked around seeing no other interest..so u choose the one u think which will have a good future..

but during halfway u find it kinda dry and boring but still u wana carry on and get the diploma and leave poly..

i dun see how u are denying another..if that fella had the interest he should hace scored better to beat me to the spot right?

just like i didn;t cry over spilt milk when i couldn't get into the course i wanted..

and i'm still graduating with the damn cert and not giving up halfway.

hmmm....actually finding out wads the course about doesnt really help much....
seniors during openhouse say until like very interesting but actually its only their proj ...pamplets also same thing..only tells us the interesting things but ppl like us wont know how much work is needed...

To prevent such a situation from happening, here is the solution. Dont even put any choices for the JAE. Retake O levels and make sure you get into the course of your choice. Do not deny others the opportunity.

Interest must always take precedence before others.

And the reason why certain courses has very low COP is becos too many ppl rush in and artificially inflate the COP. Some of these ppl are the irresponsible students who have no idea what their interest (if any) is.

wah.. i tot i had interest in electronic n comp engg.. but in the end my results are like shit... facing a crisis of getting retain or tabao module.. or worst expelled... Shocked Laughing

siao liao la.. i reali gonna die already.. i went poly learnt how to play dota.. and surfnet and 'kop' files.. i realised tat if u study u wil be able to pass leh.. it's so easy yet i didn't bother to study.. found out after takin my papers.. Shocked

lol u better work hard. i was in ece also, got dismissed. i know at least 4other ppl from my course whu gt kicked out oso....

Actually, you are quite right. During JAE counselling sessions, some seniors in the course may mislead the students. They always say "our course very good lah" "super fun" etc etc..... Something needs to be done on the level of transparency at such sessions.

The best thing is to speak directly to the lecturers or the directors of the respective schools. Funnily, I dont see much students coming for the JAE counselling session. I was a JAE student counsellor for 3 days.

Den dats too bad. I believe such cases, if any, are rare. If you fail the interview, you can always approach the director or anybody in a position to help. But come to think of it, if you fail such interviews you probably do not belong to that course in the first place. Laughing

its hard to study with no interest..but u can do the bare minimum to pass and grad with the diploma..becuz having that diploma doesn't mean u have to do that work..it only means u are more specialized in it..

i did when to see this lecturers ..aiyah all they say is go for yr interest...cause the lect i see was business lect..ask him biotech is wad he also gong gong...most of time they just trying to convince us to join their poly instead of others

Its difficult to define when exactly does the wastage occurs, but for the purpose of this thread I shall define it accordingly as stated below:

Space and resources will only be deemed to be wasted, if the student suddenly loses interest and seeks a course transfer or drops out from poly. But if the diploma is completed on a standard basis, then no wastage occurs.

i am in ngee annpoly business studies currently,2nd yr,but gonna go 4 yr,failed a few modules... too slack..

but hey,if i go jc instead,i will be staying back 3 yrs and deprive people who wan go jc because i took their places wad.... so i rather go poly Razz

i have one fren got l1r4 29 points,and she think she still can go poly,somemore wan to go business,and the business cut off point is abt 18,how to make it like tat...

Well, you know in accounts, revenue can only be recognised if the money physically comes in for this quarter for a specific transaction? Laughing

I just followed the same principles for coming up with that definition. There must be some tangible actions that has to happen before wastage can occur

But if I could be more specific, I would say, the moment a student feels that he is totally disinterested and disengaged from his course, wastage would have occured. But this is an intangible action and would differ for each individual.

the problem is that these teens don’t know what they want, where their interests lie, and are taught not to take risk. don’t know what you want to do? nvm just take any course in poly, as long as got diploma can liao. worry later!
