Troy437 SG My car battery could not start this morning. Expected as the battery at least 18 months old liao. I tell myself...No Problem. Jump start. Go to Ang Mo Kio Auto Point. Change battery. Spend about $60/-. Made a few calls and luckily my friend was nearby. He came down in his new Honda Stream and new thick jump start cables. I was happy to get him as his cars are always well mod... I fixed one end of the cables to my car batt while he fixed the other end to his car batt. Ready? Go! I started my car engine and ....suddenly there was a lot of sparks coming out of the car batt contact points! Next all my car dash board indicators disappearred! I was puzzled ! What happen?! I looked at my friend...and he said.... "+ is black colour, right?" I was horrified when I saw that he fixed the cables wrongly on the + and -. Wrong polarity!! My felt like hitting myself on the head with my fist ! OH MY GOD !! Why is this happening? How can he make such a mistake?! + is red, - is black. This is so basic! In the end got a towing crew, tow to work shop. Fuse blown. Battery $60 + Towing $35 + Fuse$15 + labour $10= $120. Tot OK liao...then go to office. Alarm gone liao. Alternator like not changing the new Batt. Drive off got two times (AT) gear never shift up. Have to off engine and restart.... Ahhhhh !!! Why I so suay??!! I can't blame him bcoz he came to help me. But his mistake cost me to spend double and now a lot of things dun work! Chinese new year just round the corner...I really cry no tears... Someone please console me

skeujin SG errr… if he really tght tt black was positive ….. thn wldnt black be connected to both cars’ positive terminals n the red to the negative? so thn there wldnt b a problem?
skeujin SG i tink tt if it was connected differently... at most the main fuse wld blow n save the rest of the electronic gadgets. wat i dnt understand is how cld it still have cranked n blew out so many other stuf.

KaNsei SG so alternator also spoil? alternator spoil very ass one.. i experience it twice.. once when i driving friend's car. once on my family car. my friends car auto lancer. very jialat.. hazard lights cannot even turn on. jump start first time. it started. but once i release accelerator, the rpm keep falling and stalled again. the other car battery too weak to jump start again. got a lorry to jump start the 2nd time. constantly doing LFB while heading towards mech. my family car alternator also spoil few weeks back. at first thought only battery.. so jump start. (not enough man power to push) car started.. rpm fell.. managed to rev it up before it stall.. but some how, all the meter stopped functioning. techo, speedo all at 0! haha.. gotta heal toe every time before stopping to prevent engine from stalling.. managed to get it to the nearest mechanic to get it fix..
LittleTiger SG I think u better check if ur ECU got "xiao" or spoilt or not.... dont wanna risk unable to engage. Maybe u can send back to the dealer to reset/reprogram the ECU. huh? Lancer alternator spoil so fast one meh?
KaNsei SG not really.. my family's ek only 4+ yr alternator spoil liao. lancer one spoil oso not sprprising. last time my family got a lancer too.. the 1992 model i think. the ECU caught fire when starting the engine...
