Degree holders earn an average starting pay of $2500 leh, whereas dip holders earn $800 - $1000 less, on average. You say leh? Laughing

Better still if you get a law or medical degree, if you read the Straits Times today.

kopiosatu SG

study for what?

thoreldan SG

another point to note is that without a proper degree, it’s not easy to go into management level or climb further up the corporate ladder

Ponders SG

who pays $2500 for degree holder as starting????

if you are talking about 1st class honours ok.

but normal degree i don't think $2500.

more like $2000-2200. but in a year or 2 can get $2400-2600 liao.

ditzy SG

Oh believe me, MNCs can easily pay you $2500 as starting, no you don't need 1st class. Laughing You just need that little x-factor in that interview and for MNCs, its hard to find. Even if you have a 1st class but minus the x-factor, you might still be getting the $2500 starting.

This is not the sweet old days anymore, employers are more inclined to ask how low can you go. So you better think properly before giving that sweet bid or you can kiss your chance at that job goodbye. Laughing Your employer would most probably give you an increment to that desired salary after your probation so don't feel dejected if you're offered a salary slightly lower.

With a diploma, you might still get somewhere, but it'll count more on luck, and it might be slow, snails could have circled the earth 4 times and over. Laughing Degree wise, it'll be abit faster and more certain, but of course you got to show it performance wise.

cornyfish2000 SG

$2500 is the average starting pay of all NUS grads last year. This figure is from a cohort study that was published in today's Straits Times.

Of course there are big variations between different faculties but that's the mean figure.

Btw, $2000 a month is definitely below average for a local uni graduate.

cornyfish2000 SG

Yesterday's chinese evening papers interviewed a fresh grad who snagged a job with Goldman-Sachs after 19 rounds of interviews... and the starting pay is $5000.

What career are you aiming for? That's very important as that will help you decide which course to take up, or to go uni at all.
