Curious about why people get so hung up on the changes between
each generation of Evos.
Generally, every year or so, every car company will try to refresh
their line up of cars. Usually this involves a minor facelift of
some sort aka new bumpers or new headlights or better trim
levels.
With the Evo 9, Mitsubishi has gone one step further by
incorporating
a. a MIVEC head on the 4G63 engine block to provide variable valve
timing, providing a much flatter torque curve (vs std twincam on
earlier models)
b. a magnesium/titanium turbo (vs titanium on earlier models)
c. improved aerodynamics on front bumper and rear diffuser on
bumper
d. rear spoiler gurney flap
among others of minor but incremental improvements that will
undoubtedly make the 9 faster than the stock 8.
IMHO, this is going waay better than most facelifts.
BTW, the Evo 1/2/3 were generally based on the same platform. The
4/5/6 also shared the same CP platform and it is not too far a
stretch to imagine that the 7/8/9 will also share the same CT
platform.
