Bicycle upgrading help!!!

Ive got my mountain bike like a year ago. Its a GT aggresor got it at $300+. at that time i thought it looks pretty hot and I thought mtb are cool, so I bought it

but recently, I find that I cycle 99% on the road and I dont go to rough terrains. So I thought I would switch to a road bike but if im going to buy one I would buy a decent one which would cost around $1000+ but I cant afford it since im still schooling and not working yet...

So I thought I would upgrade my mtb to suite the road more...any suggestions?

My bike has a front suspension which is pretty heavy, so I thought I might switch it to a lighter fork or I can change my tires to more road-oriented ones...what do you think?

If you aren't doing off-road, just get the entry level road bikes you see for now.

The standard stuff:
Will have to adapt to the new geometry, gearing and the thin tyres.
Will be good if you use spds.

Don't bother upgrading the aggressor.

Since you don’t have the moolah, just use your aggressor as it is, will be good training, a heavy bike+ knobbies = good training.

btw, why not upgrade the aggresor? does it have a realli crappy frame or somethin? btw, I like the idea of passing roadbikes with mtb lol so I wouldnt mind upgrading

The frame is heavy to start with, any decent upgrading done, might as well save it for a roadie....

my advice, change to road tires. the smooth ones.

take out smallest front ring.

change to more teeth large and medium chainring.

depending on your current derailuer, you can retain the same one and do some adjustment.

Change the fork to a carbon rigid Very Happy . and like Ponders said , change your gearing configurations and tires to slicks and your ready to go

If u want a High end Road bike (not Race spec like Lance Armstrong bike but good enough to chiong )

-------> Trek 5000 (Carbon body n Fork.. Ultegra drivetrain )
Cost: $3000

If u insist on keeping on a $1K budget
-------> Giant OCR 3 (Alu fork n frame, drivetrain varies with diff stores )
Cost: Roughly $900 (if u use 105 drivetrain )

NEVER upgrade an MTB to chiong on a road!

It wun help much due to the geometry of the MTB .

Also, its cheaper to get a 6KG roadbike den a 6KG MTB (by a few $K )

yo~ u can check it out at cadence bikes along seah street juz besides raffles hotel..they have this nice mountain bike frame but acts like a road bike..super light..and they have other types of frames too..including parts..etc..i think it's opened not long ago..

Well, you can have a more street styled mtb. Instead of using a suspension fork, you can go for rigid forks and slick tires. Some people didnt want to go for a road bike because they don't like the geometry and the fit of it.

Also, a street styled mtb can be built at a lower cost.

They're carrying the fetish cycles brand. Checked it out, frames are at 1.6kg there abt.

Changing you front chainrings means getting a 48t, this will give you more pedal power but never able to beat a roadie with a mtb. Simply because the lightest mtb (merlin's titanium or scott scale limited's carbon) with the highest end parts will also peg in somewhere 8-9kg. While road bikes can go sub 5kg & wheel diameter is already bigger than a mtb.

Road bikes are expensive toplay with plus cycling has to be predifined routes bcoz of the slicks & wheelsets they use, its fragile. A ZIPP 808 wheelset already costs $2300 and a xenith 4 spoke carbon wheel tear ur pockets with $3300.

No hobbies are cheap & cycling happens to be one of the more expensive ones.

Let me correct you, bicycles can go even up to 15K. It solely depends on what you wanna play with, what riding styles your into.

$69 can already get you a hardtail mtb, i saw the advert at a geylang bicycle shop.
