World Thinking Day 2006

February 22, 2006

The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) has announced that the 2006 World Thinking Day theme will be Adolescent Health Issues Worldwide. This is an opportunity for girls in the United States and in overseas locations to learn about global health issues that affect girls and young women. Girl Scouts are encouraged to engage in projects and activities that increase awareness of adolescent health issues in their councils, schools, and communities.

At the 32nd WAGGGS World Conference, held in Amman, Jordan, a new tagline, girls worldwide say, was launched as part of WAGGGS new image. Seven key messages were presented as part of the launch, derived from the results of a global survey on adolescent health issues. The seven messages are:

Girls worldwide say, fight AIDS
Girls worldwide say, make healthy food choices
Girls worldwide say, prevent adolescent pregnancy
Girls worldwide say, it is important to talk about sex
Girls worldwide say, lets talk about the dangers of drugs
Girls worldwide say, ban smoking in public places
Girls worldwide say, discover your potential
Building on these seven messages, WAGGGS is urging its member organizations to help focus attention on these important issues. This World Thinking Day is an opportunity to start raising awareness of adolescent health issues in your community. As you celebrate World Thinking Day this year, remember there are girls around the world celebrating with you. Have a wonderful and enriching celebration!

This Little Guiding Light of Mine

This little guiding light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine.
This little guiding light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine.
This little guiding light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine.
Let it shine, all the time, let it shine.

Hide it under a bush, OH no. I'm gonna let it shine
Hide it under a bush, OH no. I'm gonna let it shine
Hide it under a bush, OH no. I'm gonna let it shine
Let it shine, all the time, let it shine

Don't you blow my little light out, I'm gonna let it shine.
Don't you blow my little light out, I'm gonna let it shine.
Don't you blow my little light out, I'm gonna let it shine.
Let it shine, all the time, let it shine

Take my little light round the world, I'm gonna let it shine.
Take my little light round the world, I'm gonna let it shine.
Take my little light round the world, I'm gonna let it shine.
Let it shine, all the time, let it shine.

Hide it under a bush, OH no. I'm gonna let it shine
Don't you blow my little light out, I'm gonna let it shine.
Take my little light round the world, I'm gonna let it shine.
Let it shine, all the time, let it shine

Brownie Friend Maker Song

Your Brownie hand in my Brownie hand,
And my Brownie hand in your Brownie hand,
Come along with me and sing along with me,
Yes I'll come along with you and sing along with you,

Hi ho, friend makers all,
Hand in hand's the Brownies style
Hi ho, friend makers all,
Great you with a Brownie Smile,

Your Brownie hand in my Brownie hand,
And my Brownie hand in your Brownie hand,
We have Brownie friends in many lands,
Across the seven seas, the mountains and the sands,

Your Brownie hand in my Brownie hand,
And my Brownie hand in your Brownie hand,
On Thinking Day our love goes forth to every friend,
A chain of Brownie hands reaching out their help to lend.
