some cases 'FT' is better than local

i think i have seen a lot of god-Damn 'FT' stories in the forum..

but some cases, i think FT is better than local singaporeans.

I always take bus 36 from home to work. below example has been happening for many times:

Friday morning, I used to stand in the crowded 36 Bus. (at the end). saw that a old man coming up... he stood in the middle of the bus surrounded by a school girl (wearing dark blue uniform), a few 20+ working ladies and a closing eye 'FT'.

Nobody let go her/his seat to this old man and I thought that this FT pretended to be sleepy (as normal tricks for bus passengers)....

however, i guess i was wrong. after 1 minute, the FT opened his eyes and saw the old man. he gave up his seat to this old man immediately....

I just feel shame for this schoolgirl and this group of working ladies.. (they are slim, wear nice clothes, but their heart is damn ugly)

I think the pressure of being a Singaporean (work-related stress, high education standards, escalating costs of living, etc.) contributes largely to the mentality of our locals who goes about daily life thinking they should at least be entitled to their seat in a bus. Likewise on the roads with motorists.

The system we have to live with all these decades is a relentlessly undbending one, which makes for a rather self-preserving people as well. Simply because policies are self-preserving.

just take a look at what goes on at a crowded car park; the incessant and unncessary honking, the impatience and quarrels over parking lots, the indiscriminate parking and whatnot.

singaporeans are a pathetic lot.

it's not Singaporeans, it's the pressure of living under an unbending system.

Some people are able to make a seperation between being nice, and handle the stress of living here. But largely, most of us are lost in it. Hence many are not ready to - "give up a seat".

I caught myself being self-centered many times, and forced myself to give way.

Being aware is one thing, doing the opposite of what we are used to, is another.

its not the system…its how they are brought up. If they are raised like little prince and princess then they wouldn’t even dream about giving up their seats. But if it is someone who is brought up to do so, they would do it without a second thought.

Young parents/families were brought up by their own parents, and in turn were "brought" up by the system. Inflexibility begets inflexibility.
