CHC Voluntary Pastor

beavan SG

i don’t know if it’s true or not,but people are mentally “oblidged” to give money to the church..

SilverPal SG

Food for thought...

I dun mind not taking a salary too if I was the sole proprietor or a major shareholder of a million dollar company...

Ito_^ SG

Laughing priceless.

SilverPal SG

Peer pressure... I encountered it in CHC...

They all tell you that its in the Bible to give a tithe and its "sorta compulsory".

If you don't give, they give you dirty looks like you're some kind of criminal. They tell you that you're short changing God and that "the more you give, the more assured your place is in heaven"... and they get pissed when I asked them what is the market rate for buying a place in heaven...

charlize SG

Will you be shocked if they actually give you a figure on the market rate? Laughing

Shocked Shocked Shocked huh?? monk getting 19k a mth?? he need that for what?? hope he is donating all of it to the poor without telling us about it... Evil or Very Mad

SilverPal SG

You got me... I a sense I would be... but looking at the practises of CHC... I'm not so sure anymore...

Catholic father no salary... Its allowance (i dunno if its just schematic differences)

I know that different priests have differing allowances, depending on their need. Like Friars take a vow of poverty so by right they cannot lead an extravagant lifestyle. Parish priests have to handle chruch funds that can amount to very large amounts (ie $12k SGD per week). But unlike certain people, they do not blackmail themselves for million dollar salary (ie since they are handling so big amounts of money, they must be paid big bucks to prevent them from shovelling bushels of cash into their underpants).

A priest might be issued a car to use to go to hospitals and parishners' place only when the need arises. A cannon lawyer might be given air ticket (i dunno what class) if the need arises for him to travel to Rome...

SMAPLionHeart SG

Durai is 50k a month without extra OT pay , bonuses and gold taps , special first class tickets and he also used his "other company" to liase with NKF to make extra even more profit

At least CHC not so bad , $8 k is pretty reasonable
the 8k is from the donor's , and the additional salary is earned from outside , not donors.

that idiot durai's salary is earned ENTIRELY from donors..
thats the key difference

SMAPLionHeart SG

i still remember there was this catholic father kang who took a few millions.
even more power
Twisted Evil

SilverPal SG

think he is in jail now... He very power... but I'm happy that there was no massive cover up and that Fr Kang was punished.

Maybe it could have been avoided if he was paid million dollar salary... Wink

mR_mAnSoN SG

so wat… ask him 2 gif bac wat he took last time la…. He says tt he could tok 2 Jesus… but im sure Jesus didnt tell him 2 stay at orchard n draw a 5 fig pay rite….

Pommes frites SG

he didnt say that hes goin to the public.

Honeybunz SG

Last time asked a Parish Priest before. He said he was only given allowance of $150 (Catholic monks and nuns get less). The car, I know, is paid for cuz priests need to travel a lot to hospitals, prison, homes etc. Food and lodging are well provided.

Also every now and then, if the parishioners ask for special services like blessing the new home, blessing the car, funeral, wedding.... the parishioners will give a stiphen (something like ang pao) of $50 to $100 for each service.

darknessfall SG

i think its kind of crap! Evil or Very Mad
well...u said that he cannot be shoot now that he is not drawing salary from the church....his last drawn salary was abt 8k right?

He said he travels twice a month to speak at international conferences, and in the US, he can be paid around US$5,000 ($8,300) to lecture for an hour

from the quote, he mentioned that the money he earned from gving talks used to go to chruch, but now goes to him instead since he is not drawing salary..which means, now, he gets roughly US10k or slightly less, but still more than his 8K!!!!! which means, he is actually getting more! smart guy.. Cool

SMAPLionHeart SG

His own money his taiji

Soon there will even be salaries pegged to market rate for volunteers. Laughing

SingaporeMacross SG
