THERE is no doubt that Mr Khoo Swee Chiow has achieved remarkable
feats. He has proven that 'he can do it'. After putting Singapore
on the mountain-climbing and polar-expedition maps, Mr Khoo's other
exploits are about putting his personal stamp in record
books.
However, why should good money be given to a person for his
self-glorification? What does his being underwater for 212 hours
and 30 minutes do for Singapore?
It is misguided of the Northeast CDC to help promote his
self-glorification. The Dare To Dream Fund should sponsor someone
who can bring glory to Singapore or help its economy.
I applaud Mr Khoo's achievements, but he should go out and earn a
living like everyone else and not depend on charity and public
funds to achieve personal goals. The $150,000 in sponsorships would
help the National Kidney Foundation very nicely and benefit about
75 kidney patients for a month, instead of one man for his 212
hours and 30 minutes of glory.
