letstwistagain SG Hi people, i came across quite a few 86 on the road recently and usually see young people driving it around. I havea few question. How much does a AE86 cost and where do you guys get them? I only know jiayong from this forum drive one. please comment.
jiayong SG young? other than me, the youngest Trueno driver i know is like near 30 liao lorr.. haha...maybe Levins ba....most levin owners i know are younger. Car has no definite price on it. Other than its COE value, its pretty much whatever the owner wishes to sell it for. I know of one Trueno driver that is looking for buyer. Price is $48K(non neg) for slightly more than 9 yr COE. All the ae86s u see on the road is all that is left in Sg as u are not able to import them according to LTA guidelines. I heard a rumour that says there are about only 7 Truenos left in Sg...out of these 7, 5 have 10yr COE contracts so these cars can be still be used. I am not sure about the others. If any of them is on a 5 yr COE contract...then the car MUST be scrapped upon expiry of COE. Is this enuff info? I am happy to answer any questions that you might have. Oh...one more thing...i am sure after the movie releases, there will be even more pple looking for the car. So price will definitely go up. But then again...to some of us...it is not a matter of money...some of us die also wont sell car..haha..
LH83 SG I like the car.... but no money to buy... hai~.... now got seller... but I cannot afford... sian... Can I just rent it for one day? hee....
D16Z6 SG i noe not much abt AE86...but i can recognise it on the road... but i would like to noe wats the engine specs for 86??? is it a very powerful car??? hmmm i guess its a 1.6l twincam car ??? jus curious cos the cartoon show til its a very good car to drift... pls share...thanx...
jiayong SG It is not a very powerful car. From the twincams comes a 130bhp rating. give and take for the number of yrs plus the amount of maintenance and mods. However, in its time it was a very good car. Twincams EFI engine that comes with LSD and its RWD. most cars in that era are still running on carb engines and LSD was something very rare. The car is very balanced in a sense that when u view the car as a whole...the driver is actually positioned in the middle of the chasis...the engine is front mounted and the weight of the back seats and spare tire is used to balance out the whole car. The balanced part with the moderate amount of power combined with it being a RWD car makes it easy to lose control thus if in the hands of skilled drivers...they can easily pull off a nice drift and control it well in this car. Some articles said that as it is not overly powered, the drivers are able to full throttle when going around corners without fear that the car will spin out...of cos all these has to be combined with good steering work. Believe me..the steering work part is a big headache. I am by NO means good with the car. I went for an advanced course recently....and they were teaching us how to recover should our car accidentally drift....but try as i might..i just cannot recover from a full slide out....i usually end up doing circles..haha..
JDM_Junkyard SG There’s actually another Levin for sale that my friend may be letting go. Left 9 years before COE due and done up his car pretty much both on chassis and car parts. I think he’s asking SGD$52K for it.
D16Z6 SG ok...noted...gained some knowledge.... interesting to noe that the driver is actually at the middle of the chassis... btw AE86 is known as Trueno n AE85 is known as Levin huh???
jiayong SG AE86 is the chasis number along with the twincam engine set up. It have both the Levin and Trueno models. AE85 is the Single Cam engine setup. It also has both the Trueno and Levin models. In the cartoon, this is regarded as a weaker car due to the weaker engine output and the lack of LSD. It is a common misconception that the Levin is a lousier car and i hope this clears everything up. In Sg i believe all the Truenos and Levins are AE86s. Dont think there is any AE85 in Sg.
LittleTiger SG There are a few generation for Corolla Levin and Trueno. Here are the later version with more powerful engine. AExxx are normally chassis for 1.6 engine and above and the later no. is the generation. Toyota 4A-GE 20v Silver Top Twin Cam 20 Valve 1587cc 4 Cylinder 2WD Quad throttle bodies This engine produces approx. 160 bhp stock! The Toyota 4A-GE 20v Silver Top was sold in the Japanese Corolla AE101 Levin and Trueno GT-Apex Toyota 4A-GE 20v Black Top Twin Cam 20 Valve 1587cc 4 Cylinder 2WD Quad throttle bodies This engine produces approx. 170 bhp stock! The Toyota 4A-GE 20v Black Top was sold in the Japanese Corolla AE111. It features lighter internals than the 20v Silver Top and has a higher compression ratio. This gives the engine around and extra 10 bhp. Toyota 4A-GZE Twin Cam Supercharged 1587cc 4 Cylinder 2WD The early spec engines with AFM produce approx. 145-150 bhp stock! The late spec engines with MAP produce approx. 160-170 bhp stock! The Toyota 4A-GZE was sold in the Japanese MR2 Supercharged AW11 and also Corolla Levin and Trueno GTZ AE92 and AE101.
imprezaWRXSTi22B SG wah kaoz. u siao initial D den found out all these? or u r a car encyclopaedia? im impressed man
LittleTiger SG To your surprised, i never watch Initial D before... AE86 or Trueno is consider a classics. Car producer nowadays are profits prone... but at last time its the passion of the engineering from the designers and engineers. Is the SS3 out already at 240hp? First Generation 4AGE (1983) This generation was produced in transverse form (AW 11 MR2 and AE 82 FWD Corolla) and RWD longitudinal from (AE 86 Corolla GT/Corolla Levin/Sprinter Trueno and AA 63 Celica) at around 95KW (130hp) in RWD models. This generation features the Toyota Variable Intake System (TVIS), which is a set of four butterflies located in the inlet system next to the head. These butterflies remain shut below approximately 4500 RPM, effectively limiting airflow to one valve per cylinder, increasing the air speed and thus improving mid range torque. Jiayong Trueno shall be the first generation. A powerful engine at 1982(20 yrs back) for a 1.6 litre. Normal 1.8 engine nowadays also only produce 130hp. Trueno or Levin engine already have the variable valve technology 20 yrs back. Trueno and Levin are not common elsewhere cos Toyota only market this in Japan.
jiayong SG Hmm...no offence meant...but seriously mann...power wise, anyone can just pedal to the metal. I was hoping this car can refine my driving skills as i have read alot about it in overseas forums before deciding to get it. Pple are saying that if you can drive the AE86 well...then most prob u can handle any other type of car. I dunno how true it is but i would like to believe so as i personally find this car very very hard to drive. But i guess another reason is that i have no money. But then again..that will not be a valid excuse cos even if i win New Year TOTO 10 million, i wouldnt change car also...may just buy a saloon to fetch my parents around...but the Hachi Roku will remain tightly bonded to my soul...haha
jiayong SG To Little Tiger: yup...those butterflies are indeed a beauty..but i guess i wont get a chance to drive them in Sg. My 4AGE is the Single Throttle engine...Although it is slower than the 20V quad throttle..i head some experts from Australia and Japan mention that the 16V engine block is much more sturdy than the 20V engine bloack..be it the Silver or Black top. i am not sure how true is that too...but i did take note that some of the D1 drifting racers had set up their AE86 with the 16V engine block with quad throttle attachments. Of couse they used racing cams and pistons and aftermarket ECUs for their setup. maybe their unwillingness to change to a 20V engine block is evident that the 20V block is weaker? I dunno..hee hee.. Maybe ask ROV to let me try the 20V block for a year or so then i give comments...haha..
[email protected] SG in fact if u win TOTO 10 million, it makes it all the more possible not only to keep your 86, but to restore every last bit in it to a very beautiful condition as well.
D16Z6 SG yah...do an upgrade on its pop-up headlight to the one like the Diablo... now pop-up is not 'IN' anymore, looks sporty though...ha ha...
