The Polytechnic, is a work-in-progress. RP was officially
established on 1st August 2002. RP is in the midst of making
preparations to open their doors in July this year to her first
batch of students ¨C some 800 of them.
At the Republic, expect a ¡®new¡¯ way to learn ¨C as students, you
will be empowered and actively engaged in your learning. You will
have fun looking for solutions to real problems. And you will learn
many, many skills along the way ¨C whether it¡¯s better
communication, becoming a better team player, or how to better
manage your time. In fact, your experience at the Republic will
mimic so closely your future world of work, that you¡¯ll be glad
you spent your three years with us!
RP will offer challenging courses to meet the needs of industry. It
will be a campus that is lively, creative and up-to-date.Industry
will be brought into campus, and all staff become associates of
companies in the relevant industries.
It provides the true preparation for Life.Students to have a
holistic education because RP value not just technical skills but
also the intangibles such as integrity, care and concern for
others, and sense of community.
A tangible part of the Republic that we can all look forward to is
its permanent campus in Woodlands which will be ready in 2006. It
will be a ¡®campus in the park¡¯, integrated into the National
Parks¡¯ rustic nature reserve. It will also be a ¡®campus within
the community¡¯, serving as a cultural hub in the north. In the
meantime, we are sprucing up the Tanglin campus and it will be
ready for the first intake of students in July 2003. There will be
a new two-storey library with the latest stock of books to meet the
research needs of students. We will have an indoor food-court and a
sheltered outdoor caf¨¦. The sportsmen and sportswomen among you
will appreciate the playcourts such as tennis and basketball
courts, whilst those interested in the arts will have a performance
area for their cultural activities. It will be an exciting time of
learning, playing and growing for the pioneer batch of
students!
