ACS Boys-Pros and Cons

skyfoo SG

pls relook at my above post for your 1st sentence. HCI is a sch of bilinguists and there's no need to involve RJ or SA as doesnt concern them. oh, apparently, there's only black sheeps in acs. y dont ppls criticise other top schs? surely there's a reason right? for that reason, u go figure out yourself, if not, just read the thread again for better knowledge. i certainly dun wish to argue with u on the second part

RockeY SG

I'm involving them because top schools do consider english to be the main language, just enforcing the point..People don't criticise other top schools are u sure??How old are you, maybe if you're a teen you will hear about the hooha about each school..Besides ACS like i said is rather famous, thats why you hear more people talking about it..And one more point when you are famous, people are always waiting to pounce on whatever mistakes you make..

skyfoo SG

i shall requote myself.

lol, talking about history.. ACS = Anglo-Chinese School. right? but i dun see british students there. neither can i see chinese-speaking ppls there. only brats i can see are potato-like chineses who want to act ah mohs. lol.

seriously, if there's bad comments about other top schs, it's not during ur everyday lives. however, diff case for acs. acs is rather infamous then famous for your info.

RockeY SG

Well, there are notorious boys there, but den again why do you not mention that ACS is famous for sports?

skyfoo SG

sports? u mean swimming or rugby? these sports are top schs sports i wld call that. if all the schs in sg have these sports as their ccas, do u think they got a chance.

RockeY SG

Badminton, atheletics?Nope the point here is,boys who are sportsmen will generally want to go into schools known for sports..Top sports school no doubt, is that the envy of other schools?ACS is rich because of the funding from the old boys and you can't blame ACS for forging such a strong relationship between the boys and the school..

seow SG

Rich kids always appear to be quite soft and white imho. Very Happy

skyfoo SG

from the moe site. acs (I) sports achievements:

National Badminton B Boys 3rd, National Badminton C Boys 4th, National Canoeing B Boys 2nd, National Canoeing C Boys 3rd, National Cricket B Boys 3rd, National Cricket C Boys 1st, National Cross Country B Boys 3rd, National Golf B Boys 3rd, National Rugby B Boys 2nd, National Rugby C Boys 1st, National Sailing B Boys 2nd, National Sailing C Boys 2nd, National Shooting (Air Rifle) B Boys 3rd, National Shooting (Air Rifle) C Boys 2nd, National Softball B Boys 4th, National Squash B Boys 1st, National Squash C Boys 2nd, National Swimming B Boys 1st, National Swimming C Boys 2nd, National Tennis B Boys 1st, National Tennis C Boys 1st, National Tenpin Bowling B Boys 1st, National Tenpin Bowling C Boys 2nd, National Track and Field B Boys 2nd, National Track and Field C Boys 4th, National Waterpolo B Boys 1st, National Waterpolo C Boys 1st, South Zone Badminton B Boys 1st, South Zone Badminton C Boys 1st, South Zone Shooting (Air Rifle) B Boys 2nd, South Zone Shooting (Air Rifle) C Boys 2nd, South Zone Table Tennis C Boys 4th

where's more common sports like basketball and soccer? lol. bowling, golf, canoeing, cricket, squash, waterpool, ... u go any neighbourhood schs and see they have anot, except for 1 or 2. how they got their money i not interested. the bond between their boys and sch i also not interested. my bond between sch and students also strong what.

RockeY SG

Soccer, not to be racist or any thing, but rather i notice the school that wins it has quite alot of malays in its team..Basketball fine,The bond between your school and its students strong, but will you continue supporting the school even after decades of years?Maybe you might, but i'm not sure the rest of your batch will..Like i said you can't blame ACS for thaving this facilities, its not like it was MOE who gave them that and did not give the other schools..

skyfoo SG

also, for their ug achievements, got some doubts about it. for the scouts, i believe they cheat to achieve the gold. as every proficiency(skills) badges give them some marks. they just cheat to get those badges. i heard that badge like cycling, they just went to cycle in east coast and they got the badge. the requirements are more than a stupid cycling trip. same go for other badges. thus, u can see dozens of prof badges on their right sleeve, which other schs only a bit. also, extra marks for each person going overseas. since they got so much money, gg overseas cost little and the whole troop can afford to go. the pts here and there gave them the gold.

skyfoo SG

since u says that acs is famous for sports, y not more common sports instead of 'exotic' sports? u shld know what i mean, no need to argue more. they got the money, what can we do?

RockeY SG

Must you excel in every sport to be considered a top sporting school?Well if you know you have more competitiors, you jolly well move on to a new area, thats business sense for you..If you have many competitiors in this area, why bother to fight, just move on to another not so highly competitive area..Anyway if you notice, the schools that ACS excels in also currently happens to be the pride of Singapore sports..

ACS Anthem

In days of yore from western shores
Oldham dauntless hero came
and planted a Beacon of Truth and Light
in this island of the Main.
Here may it stand from year to year
emblem of grand endeavour
The regions round echo the sound
of A.C.S. forever.

(Chorus)
Sing A.C.S. forever more,
our A.C.S. forever.
God save our land and heaven bless
our A.C.S. forever.

Our students hail from China's plains
and the Land of Rising Sun.
We have many sons from India's strand
and the islands of the Main.
Our hearts our hopes our aims are one.
No discord e'er will sever.
We'll stand together for the cause
of A.C.S. forever.

(Chorus again)
Sing A.C.S. forever more,
our A.C.S. forever.
God save our land and heaven bless
our A.C.S. forever.

Must I give way and room to your rash choler?
Shall I be frighted when a madman stares?

You must have lost your girlfriend to an ACS boy. It is true that many ACS boys come from English-speaking families and have difficulties with Chinese but that is changing rapidly. In any case, I bet my Chinese is better than yours....

SumOne SG

Good that you like them then, to each his own. Wink

SumOne SG

Hey guys, was wondering if we can move on from all the discussion about which school is older and which school is more successful in sports? Because the discussion was never about the achievements of ACS or any school for that matter. It was about the attitude of ACS guys.

No matter how successful your school is, or how many trophies your school has won, it doesn't mean you can act like the world owns you a living. I don't even consider ACS as the single most successful school at all. But that's not the point, point is ACS have this tendency of being arrogant, just like "social87" who is in no way sociable by the way.

All this talk about sports awards is like kids shouting,"My toy is bigger than yours!!!"

SumOne SG

The main issue with ACS guys is not their inability to speak english, it's they're arrogant attitude.

aloof_guy SG

Actually i feel really sad for these people. They have never experienced what to be united, our hearts our hopes our aims are one.

Top sports players gets easy entry into ACS schools. But why did they choose ACS when the "suppose" public thinks ACS are snobs and spoilt brats? haha go figure dudes.

About the person stating "Tell me which ministers are successful from ACS?? Its their character not because their from ACS"

I think you get your sayings all messed up. Examples of some of the ministers are ng eng and balakrisnan.(Not sure how u spell them) These ministers GOT THEIR CHARACTER FROM ACS. They frequently go back to ACS schools to encourage and motivate the boys to go on. This is what i call school unity and spirit.

Lets hope this somehow goes to the newspaper. I wanna hear their views over this issue.lol.

SumOne SG

I don't think the main issue is with their being successful or unsuccessful in sports.

Wow. This brings back (mostly fond) memories....

It's been many years, and I don't recall if we sang this during flag-raising in the Quadrangle at Barker Road. I know we recited the Pledge and sang the National Anthem (usually without much enthusiasm).
