You mean how? as in if you are interested to be a mentor?

hehe, anyway, here's my response... ...
My concept of a mentor is a friend who will help guide the
youth in his/her ardous academic (maybe even personal) path at the
critical juncture of one's life. (Not another
slave-driver.
)
There has to be certain desirable qualities of a mentor of
course... eg.
1) effort in understanding the course material of mentees in order
to provide reasonable academic tutoring.
2) academic experience (or confidence!) or experienced
professionals (relating to the corresponding course)
Elaboration on why the
above qualities (among others):
I realize that a lot of times, the broad concepts or framework
across different texts are not that different. It's a matter of
different authors of different generation putting across similar
messages in different styles.
As such, I believe that with qualities such as 1) and 2), a mentor
will have the aptitude to comfortably survey the mentee's course
requirements & materials. He/she can then advise or highlight
which areas are important or provide some tips on overcoming the
difficulties encountered.
Of course, you may be wondering: What if the mentee's text material
really look Greek to the mentor??
I feel that it really doesn't matter even if the mentor is not
well-versed in the course material. This is because the pure act of
both parties interacting with each other will, at least in some
intrinsic sense, soothe or calm the mentee's nervousness.
Hopefully, the morale & confidence of the mentee will be
boosted & he/she will realize that he/she is not alone.
If the difficulty is really beyond the mentor's capabilities, the
mentor can & should encourage the mentee to seek his/her
lecturer or tutor in schools for professional help. It may sound
simple or obvious but approaching lecturers is something that many
students today may still lack the courage to do. (ps: myself
included!
)
But I must stress, one of the more important objectives of the
mentor is to give the youth CONFIDENCE and not to "drive" the
mentee to achieve academic excellence. So at lull periods (for the
mentee), it is critical that mentors tell their mentees that poor
results is NOT THE END.
--- zodi's words from the heart ---
it pains me to hear or see the sad stories about our youths &
even children. hence my concept for this little initiative in my
feeble attempts to outreach to the youths in need of help. even if
they're not comfortable to meet face to face, as an online "friend"
(via msn or whatever technology platform), the little support given
will at least help them in little ways...
