i just received my new car. thinking of washing the car myself once a week. would like to seek advise on this, things like how to clean the windows and windscreen, how to clean the body, how to clean the rims, what brand of car shampoo, window cleaner, cloth, etc to use, how to go abt cleaning (wet, shampoo, wet, then dry it totally? window first then body?) and of course, how to clean the interiors (the leather seats, the console, etc)

and what should i have handy in my car for all the cleaning required?

Just some general advice Very Happy
Don't wash the car immediately after hard driving when the wheel and brakes
are hot.
Rinse the car first to remove big particles, else you may end of scratching the paintwork
At the rinsing stage, you may want to feel the surfaces with you bare hands
to locate and remove any such particles harmlessly.
After that, you can shampoo the car.

thanks... how to clean the windows? any special equipment or cloth for that?

and would any car shampoo and any normal cloth do for cleaning the body?

well, for me, I just use old t-shirts and cloth + normal car shampoo from petrol kiosk. if you want , there are lots of washing cloths and shampoos for cars out there. Go to Autobacs you can choose until blur.. Mr. Green
I don't use any special eqipment for windows, just the same cloth to wash the rest of the car Very Happy

washing the windows... well, u can use those like those at petrol station to clean them, orelse a more traditional method is to use newspaper. I am sure most of us would have seen shops using newspaper to clean the windows.

Well, for cleaning solutions most are good enough to last for at least a week. Wink just go to any super market and your will find a range of them.

If you love your car try not to go too often to those manual car wash or let those bengali to wash ur car at the carpark. It will spolit the paint work. Laughing

Window - glass cleaner & wipe wif newspaper

Body - Car Shampoo. remember juz add ONLY a little (less than a cap). Else U end up wid lotsa foams.

Tyre Rim - Not sure. I juz splash wif car shampoo water & clean slowly the dirt wif a tooth brush

Tyre - Maybe Spray wif tyre cleaner loh...

Car Plate - If u want to tio 4D or toto, maybe u want to clean ur car plate. Laughing If I not wrong , some1 told mi to spray the tyre cleaner & wipe away using a clean cloth

BTW... any1 can tell mi how can I remove the stain from my bumper left behind when i accidentally use car polish solution on it.

Item i need for washing & polishng per session

2 plastic pails to contain water (My pail small so need 2. )
Some cleaning cloth
1 car shampoo
1 glass cleaner
1 sponge
1 scoop
1 tooth brush (to clean the in-between gaps. VERY IMPORTANT. else after long time corrision may occur)

I add shampoo in a pail of water & then splash it over.
Wipe away the dirts
Clean the tire
Splash clean water
Dry the body
Polish car
Clean windows

Interior wise.... I go those carpark car wash & request them to clean my interior once a month. Interior... If u keep ur daily cleaniness by checking ur car mat , it shd b ok....

wow thanks! Wink think i need to go shopping! the only thing now is i park at a multi storey carpark, and so can't just wash my car where it is. oh well..

Eventhough i own a car for 3 years, but never know need a toothbrush to wash car..........so to remove dirt from tyre? interior or ? Rolling Eyes

try not to use any kind of soap on a newly waxed car. u will end up thinning the layer of wax n other protective layers applied on your paint. Your paint also gets kindof rough if you happen to apply the liquid wax directly onto the car and do not wash it off immediately. Wash off all bird dropping as soon as possible, or it will eat into ur paint. Wash ur car after it has rained also as the water will dry up n leave spots . For the rims, you can use normal soap powder( the one u use for washing clothes)..very effective.. check ur tires for stuck bits of stones etc..

Aviod engine wash by companies unless ur going to sell your car. The chemical they use eats ur cables n metal after a period of time.

Spray water to remove fine particles first.

Soap with water/car shampoo mix (I like Autoglym) using soft sponge.

Spray off suds.

Use chamois to dry (Autoglym).

Anyway, unless you are not a lazy person, the chances are after a few months, you are gonna go out to get someone to wash and clean for your darling car....Don't spent too much on the cleaning materials(shampoo, cleaning tools etc) as u just need it for a few months until your "fire" are put out....

If you have no money for chrome cleaners….use Coca Cola. Just something I picked up from ‘Mythbusters’. Don’t forget to wash off thoroughly.

just came back from my first car washing experience. wow.. the hdb cashcard operated tap is damned powerful! and darned that my hose was too short and my pail too small.. wasted quite alot of water. Razz

toothbrush is becoz I polish my car each time i wash my car. So sometimes the toothbrush can be used to remove excessive solution stuck between gaps like the car logo.
