i agree.

whenever they have chance, they like to show off their rich friends.

They can have many rich friends for networking but they don't have to bring them up in every single conversation.

for example, out of no way, he said "Mr. XXX just bought a penthouse worth 2.2 million"

Sadly, i have friends of indians, malaysians, thais. I just realized only singaporeans will brag about this but not other nationalities.

No debate about the Mercedes example, but the other two examples are pretty ambiguous, aren't they?

In the first case, the guy's client just bought a $2.2 million apartment. I'd imagine that would mean a fairly substantial commission ($22,000 at the usual 1% rate, I believe), so maybe he was excited about his commission instead.

In the third instance, well, it cuts both ways. The fellow could indeed be bragging about his rich friend, but he could also be trying to explain that he was helping his friend house-hunt, which is a fairly substantial task.

There are people who like to brag about rich friends, and there are people who tend to automatically interpret things as attempts to show off. They're both sides of the same coin.

case 1: he's property angent, and someone buys some super expensive penthouse means he get a big commission. that's his job, he just happy that he earn some big bucks, so he tell u guys that. it's like u work in some company, u did well for the yr, boss give u 4 month bonus while others only get 1 or 2 months, u will also tell u friend cos u are happy about that, rite? As a property agent, besides giving professional advice to his customers, he should please them too. Attitude does matter when it comes to sales job.

case2: this maybe really those type of ppl who lick rich man' ass like u said. And u said "brag", so maybe he's not really that close to those rich guy.

case3: i dunno if that rich guy is really close to ur fren. If they are really close fren, i think it's ok that ur fren go help him settle down. cos it doesnt matter he's rich anot, if his close fren who's not rich, just came to singapore and want to look for a HDB flat to rent and settle down, he should go help too.

You should reply that he must earn a big sum and therefore he should give pay for dinner and drinks! And you go order the best stuff you can get.
That will shut him up the next time.

There are many type of friends and many "levels" of friendliness
therefore one cannot assume everyone are friends. Some are just there for the good times, others stay through thick and thin.

first case: he is like that one. this is just one of many examples. everytime, he will tell u something about "close to the rich man's ASS" story. Like Mr.XXX just bought another mercedes. He took me for a ride.

Third instance: this guy and I dont' even close. My friend's friend. He can just tell me that he cannot make it and would like to postpont. Don't have to tell me this showing rich friend around blah blah story.
