well ... my desktop is a mac .... no probs so far .... there's a built in firewall native to unix/linux, but i think they don't kenna as much cos there aren'...

For firewall, download ZoneAlarm. It is completely free. Be careful though, you allow the wrong application to pass through ZoneAlarm, and that's it. Block the wrong program, don't need to go Internet.

For free antivirus, just download AVG.

Certain programs that you know are safe, just tell ZoneAlarm to remember them. If not, it is a very irritating feature, although it is good.

Choose at least 2. Sometimes, not all spyware scanners can catch all the spyware. In case first one did not catch, the second one will catch.

Spyware dun block virus. To really enhance your internet sercurity go get a norton internet security (more user friendly) or alternatively u can opt for Macfee Internet Security. Then get a MS Beta Spyware, but tat only can b download if your using the orignal XP. The other one is Ad-Ware which is d/ltable... Google is your friend Very Happy

FireIce, you forget need to install firewall.

No firewall = leave house door open.

And have no more than one firewall and antivirus.

XPSP2 Firewall not needed. Me using XPSP1 thou... i close all my firewall... set the DMZ to me as well, but still clean from A.I.D.S =P... you can make sure by using task manager to keep track.

XP SP2 firewall is of no use. The minute I update it to SP2 and turn off my firewall, that's it. In just one day, my computer is crawling like turtle.

I don't know how to set DMZ, so have to use firewall.......

Unless some kind souls willing to teach........ Very Happy

one antivirus.. one spyware scanner.. good habits, done.

The basic should be a firewall and anti virus.

Then go get a spyware check and remover.

Watch your surfing habits( avoid BT, P2P sharing of files, porn sites).

Regularly run anti virus test, spyware checks, and clear your cookies everyday.

That's what i think you should do.
