ndmmxiaomayi SG Budget usually build yourself. Or if you don't know, Dell is the best. They are the cheapest among all brands I know. For personal use, buy desktop since you know DIY for a desktop. Thinkpad at least $3000. The rest at $2000.
rainee SG get an IBM. I have a T43 and it has been really good so far I heard that T42 might be better than T43 actually and it might be cheaper too. So you can check that out as well
