At least they had the chance to clear their names. In Singapore, they'd probably have been hanged long before any fresh evidence clearing them came about.

It is more of a sugar-coated right-wing despotism to me. The only place where street protests are harshly suppressed. Even in KL, we saw the Reformasi movement unfold despite heavily police presence.

i think we're suppose to follow the british system though, which is guilty until proven innocent.

although i dont think we do that all the time.

The standard in western societies is innocent until proven guilty. It has been so all along, from the Opium War era until today.

If you commit a crime in any western country, the prosecutor has to build a case against you from SCRATCH. Therefore, it takes longer for a trial to conclude.

i quite remb my teacher telling me that the US is stupid cause they believe in that other system, and that hes glad that we follow the british system instead.

although if i turn out to be wrong dont blame me cause i know nuts about the law, lol.

But I think in Asia, it is always the other round....and I think Singapore still sticks to the Asia's way, as it has revealed in many cases that you are guilty until you are proven innocent.

Should be innocent till proven guilty, but meanwhile you are offered bail and still undergo interrogation.

I think everywhere else in US would be innocent until proven guilty except in the state of Louisiana where guilty until proven innocent.
