Ayukat SG I don't understand why some schools only allow the best of the best students to take pure subjects. A teacher told me that a combined subject is 70 % of a pure subject. If that is so, a Combined Subject consists of 2 * 70 % = 140 % while a pure subject is a whole which is 100 % Isn't studying Combined Subject a waste of time? When you can gets the the marks easiler from studying 1 subject? Not only that. In my old sch, the 1st class takes: English Maths Mother Tongue Biology Chemistry Physics A Maths Combined Humanites Total number of subjects, counting Combined as 2 subjects = 9 While my class takes: English Maths Mother Tongue Combined Science Combined Humanties A Maths Accounting Total number of subjects, counting Combined as 2 subjects = 9 Isn't this unfair? They study 9 subjects as 8 countable subjects and we study 9 subjects as 7 coutable subjects. So means they got more chances of scoring higher? Why are people still taking combined subjects? Waste time and not worth it...
An0nym0us SG Actually I agree with you, should allow everyone to have equal opportunities but that is how the system works.
sinicker SG pure science are for those who wanna proceed on to jc to take A lvls. w/o pure science, u honestly cannot handle the sciences at A lvl. i have a friend who didnt take pure sci and add maths for O lvls. now, she is repeating year 1. if u take combined sci and wanna proceed on to jc, there are two barriers u have to overcome. 1. the O lvl to A lvl barrier. 2. the combined to pure barrier. in sec sch, they allow some classes to take combined science coz' dis grp are those that have decided to go to a poly after O lvls. so, if you're in sec 2 and want to go to a JC Science faculty, do well for the year-end exams in sec 2 and get into the best class.
AugoeideS SG No logic...we still learn A-level equivalent Science subjects at Poly. Looking back, they should have give every students the opportunities to take Pure Science. If i can manage A level equivalent science, even if i took combined science back in sec. sch, why not Pure Science? Funny the way the system works.
sinicker SG u mean u took combined science and is now taking the A-level equivalent of the two sciences in poly now?
stellazio SG pure science got more chapters to study la,and the paper is much harder as compared to a combi science paper..
stellazio SG in short, pure is for smart people, combi is for not so smart people..and triple is for ...................
Ayukat SG Not exactly... Combine Science has more chapters for 1 subject... becos u have to study 2 subjects for 1 subjects... Pure may have more chapters... but its all for 1 subject... Study 2 subjects for the marks of 1? Not worth it...
starblue SG combined bio is crap lah... only difference is they dun need to know pregnancy and the stages of giving birth. and details for kidney. might as well take pure bio...
Suicine SG My friend who took both pure and combined science before said that combine science dun need to study one.
vIn.Warrior SG not say don't have to study. you just have to READ through the notes that's enough to get A1.
Depressed...*sigh* SG For combine science, if u listen in class and o all ur homework, u sure can get A1 without studying de
snowiesnow SG Combined is simpler then Pure.. Pure is the so call ' Combined Science syllabus' In a lvls. haha I realeas that wat I learn one, the sub science never learn.. for some topics* Like.. very weird like that.. cos I think it's essential for Sub science to know too
no_1_idiot SG Ya Unfair man, took combin sci in sec sch... Dats why struggle like siao dis yr and only scrape a A level pass Hmm,but at least beat 35 percent of e cohort ,whom e majority gt pure sci,,,,,
no_1_idiot SG Aiyah, success in A levels sciences does nt reali mean u nid to take pure sci to a large extent, its u working doubly hard only
