For external harddisk with USA cable now require USB 2.0 rite? which mean USB 1.o is not compatible.

its USB, its still compatible just that your access speed of the hdd is slow.

Does it apply to all portable hdd that uses USB? cos there is once my frenZ passed me his portable hdd, but it cant be detected, though my USB ports have no problem. Do u hav any clue to it?

RPM=Rounds per min

Most hard disks have 5400rpm. The higher the rpm, the faster your computer can access and read the data on yr hard disk. Desktop computers now should get 7200rpm at least. For hardcore gamers and multimedia work, they have hard disks up to 15000rpm...

There's gonna be an offer at my school next week, selling IT stuffs.

USB 2.0 2.5 inch portable harddisk
40 gb- $99.

Is this worth it?

I don't think I have usb 2.0. But will this harddisk still function?
