I find it odd that you are comparing a 1.6l hatch (Optra5) with a 1.6l sedan (Lancer). Perhaps you should be looking at the Kia Cerato hatch or even the Hyundai Matrix 1.6l for that matter.

The Brand Chevrolet is American i think. BUT the local chevs are from the former brand Daewo, thus korean.

hmm.. ok gif u ppl some light... chevrolet optra is a hybrid or called it mixed blooded car... it was designed in italy.. its base is a korean... engine's a aussie... and parts from japan n korea... assembled in thailand.. which is a top notch factory.. where they assemble opels too...hmm.. but really its a good car... otherwise its rojak background...

the chevrolet aveo is a very korean car.... yes a former daewoo kalos.. but it using a different engine from kalos now.. its close to a opel ecotec 1.4l 16v dohc engine.. and many upgrades up brougt in through GM.. which makes it another american-korean car.... scores well in crash test fro a sub-compact car... there's this new in somewhere in america that the aveo crash headon with an acura accord and the acura suffer serious crash state while the aveo had minor dents onli... hi guys, optra and optra 5 are better cars within chevy and can compete with most jap cars.

don't bother with what car is made in where. toyota's popular cars like Vios and Corolla are selling better than other Jap brands thou they are built in thailand. why no one question this strategy from toyota. nowadays most people are paying for the brand but not the actual product Rolling Eyes

Your comparison is quite out of league...Kia and Optra, Chevy and Mistusbishi....anyway forget about Kia, Chevy, all are Korean brands, Chevy now rebadged, formerly Daewoo...

Mitsubishi is better finished in built and cabin layout. Mazda also has an exciting range. Its 3 and 6 series is good. What about Honda? Civic, Jazz. Toyota's Altis, Vios? Subaru?

Depends on what you want. Is it Comfort, performance, economical, conservative styling or futuristic? We are spolit for choice nowadays and car price is the lowest in the recent years. Take your name to test drive as many cars as possible. Don;t just look at the xterior, examine the interior layout, the type of material used, accessories, storgae box, etc etc....the interior is where you are when you are driving and it has got to feel good.

I own the kia cerato and so far i'm impressed by it.... if ur a young guy looking for power on cheap budget, den the cerato is the car... i'm not siding the koreans, but u shud test drive the cerato... c how u feel abt it... aniwaes the car is oso available for modification in sg... struts, bbtb, springs, u name it, its all available. as for perfomance, its very responsive in terms of acceleration. handling is however compromised, but if u change to better tires, dat will improve the grip and handling. Deres a thread on kia cerato somewhere back in the forum pages....

well,of course,it would be ideal to have a power car on a cheap buget for sure,however, the resale value of the car aft 7years is holding me back although i do not know how to calculate.do you/anyone know how to calculate the resale value of a car after 7 years by quoting an example?

is there a huge diff,say about 10K diff btw a jap car against a korean car resale value?

regarding the resale value of K cars and J cars, the difference is likely less than 10k... say ard 7-8k... aniwaes, if u dun 1 2 lose $$$, sell ur car after 3 yrs and buy a new one...

regarding the power thingy, i test drove the manual version of the cerato... very powerful on the 1st 3 gears... Smile

it depends on ur paper value, OMV thingy... cos usually for low end cars like kia, proton, and other korean brands, the depreciation is relatively high considering after the coe ends, u can only get back 10k for scrap... so if u 1 2 get a higher value for ur current car, scrap or sell it within 3 yrs or so... latest i find is 5 yrs...

my last car was an OPC wira wich cost me 53k, and i took a 7yr loan. but i paid the installment for 3 yrs den i sell it. in total i still haf ard 15k left for the bank installment. wen i scraped the car, the dealer of c&c offered me 25k scrap value. if i hapen to sell or scrap my car after 5 yrs, the va,ue wud probably drop to 18-20k.

therfore wif the 25k i receive from the scrap value, i use it to finish the bank loan, and use the rest as d/p for my cerato.... the depreciation of each car varies la... just ask ur SA to provide u the value...

To caculate the paper value, u need to know the OMV of the Car so as to caculate the PARF Rebate that u will get.

Eg, at end of 7 year, u get 71.5% of the OMV back as PARF rebate.

The COE rebate is pro-rated.

Eg if COE is 20k, every year is $2k. U de-reg after 7 year, u get back $2k x 3year = $6k.

Car Body, will depend on the market suitation at that time.

Add all these together, u can rough estimate of yr car value.

i just bot a lancer maunal sports i really like it.it has got all e things wic u want.its perfomance is good with great fc too.i dunno wat chev has it has yet to convince ppl.to me e lancer auto is nothin compared to manual.racing results showed with drivin exp.well its up to u wic type of car u prefer.make sure u feel gd when u drive it like how i m feelin.
