how do employers find out criminal record?

i have gone to prison before. i know i must declare to employer that i have criminal record. but can someone tell me how my employer can find out that i was in prison? how do companies conduct background check? is there some govt office that all employer can call?

but will all employer check? is it safe if i don't declare?

depending on what crime you commited, there are some companies that will still employ ex-convict.
i think there is an government organisation which helps ex-convicts find jobs one... you can try that if you cant find jobs

I think they tell it by your IC. I heard that people who have gone to prison their IC have a special mark. It can only be viewed under special light, like our money notes.

Another thing is that they know you go to jail because of newspapers. You became famous through there.

i use to have that 'special IC' when i was under supervision when i first release from prison. but now i have my normal IC.

SCORE got help me look for job but i want to apply for other job also.

by the way do ITE accept ex convict?

there is a dept, which floor i forget, u can go there to get a form from them to 'certify' u do NOT have a criminal record. other things i better keep mum.

Now if your offence is minor enough, your criminal record will be 'spent' after 5 years if you stay crime-free. Which means you will then be able to say that you do not have a criminal record.

Unfortunately some companies are very smart. They dun ask you if you have a criminal record but "Have you ever been convicted in a court of law in any country?".

Anyway, better to be honest with them.

Thought there is a confidentiality policy which protects ex-cons who are seeking jobs? I mean…wtf…ppl are now trying to turn over a new leaf and start a new life…bunch of pussies have to make it hard for them. Unless its those who rape,rob,kidnap,kill then release their details lahz…others…shud gif them a chance.

well even if companies phase it that way,it is also useless.

You can just write no,i have never being convicted and they will never be able to find out since you do not have the record for them to confirm it.
