sinicker SG nowadays, they enter station have to stop reading. coz' recently, got ppl complain and ask 'why are they reading?? they shud look at the tracks for ppl trying to commit suicide!!!' so yeah, they hav to stop reading when the train enters the station.
Pitot SG Talking abt this issue.. I understand that the LRT's are all without drivers.. so if a person was to jump into the path of an oncoming LRT, the LRT cant stop unless someone hits the emergency stop button?
Pitot SG I guess its their hobby? You have plane spotters, Train spotters, Ship spotters, we even have our own bus forum rite here! Well big boys like big toys.. lol.. Its a passion I guess.. I myself am a plane spotter..
Manager433 SG Bet you never see one whereby he eats or smokes or listening to mps/cd player despite 'OCC' calling his callsign, or sleeping while driving rite?
sinicker SG haha.. good question. no road tax/COE. one thing is SG's train are well-maintained. 18 yrs on and they're still as good as new. i think it has to do with the seating arrangement. if our MRT train's seating arrangement was like in our buses, the two-by-two arrangement, littering and vandalising would be rampant. i think the MRT train can last another 10yrs? or even more. would anyone like our buses to have seating arrangements like the train?
Pitot SG Noo.. Bcos the bus breaks much more then the train.. I can imagine myself going leffftttt riiiggghhhttt, leeffffttt rrrriiiggghhhttt.....
tranquilice SG In my opinion, no. Trains can move in either of both directions but buses move in a single direction (unless reversing), so it's preferable to retain the current seating arrangement in buses.
Manager433 SG Next time when u happen to travel on the MRT specially SMRT ones, sit rite behind the driver's cockpit. But not everytime lah. Maybe once out of a hundred times. I ever came across this. Twice. And when it happens, mostly the driver will open his cockpit door for the wind to blow in so tat the cigarette smoke can escape. . And this explain why theres a sudden rush of air. Don't believe me? Juz follow my method.
redstone SG At least SMRT trains better than NY subway rite.... Those greyish-silver NY trains look real bad....
sinicker SG they look bad but their technology is good. saw "megastructures" on national geographic talking abt the technology. coz' some trains gg towards various directions stop at the same platform using the same tracks. den at some point, they have to switch the direction. multi-switching is the technology involved ah. very complicated. just that the trains look pretty bad.
wonderamazement SG My goodness, finally this thread can finally be put to better use for discussion on what i saw today at Bugis startion....man...there so many people around and when people were trying to get on the driver closed the door and many communters were knocked by those shutters...... happened around but 1.30pm???++
kc_leung SG We should have SMRT staff at the platforms whose job is to push people into trains so that they dun kena hit by the doors. Like those on the Japanese shinkansen.
sinicker SG haha.. it also happened on wed evening rush hr at city hall for the train towards Pasir Ris.. some knew they cudnt enter and gave up and waited for the nxt one. the persistent ones got hit den they 'realised' there's no space.
Manager433 SG Simply bo-chap. Door chime sounded off and still wants to rush in for what? Trying to test how good those door-sensors are? Omg! Wat if the driver half asleep and accidents bound to happens!
EXCO SG The Shinkansen doesn't have people pushing you in. Only the local services and certain main lines.
