You didn't position your dvd properly. Lateral torsional, and
radial forces can tear the disc to shreds. The disc being plastic
underwent excessive deflection because you didn't position it
properly. The plastic disc being inhomogenous and anisotropic
doesn't undergo deformation nor cyclic failure, it just shatters. A
good reason why road wheels aren't made of plastic.
