l0st-s0ul SG most of the cars nowsaday uses hydraulics system be it in the brakes or some other parts. i was wondering how do these cars operate in countries when the temperature falls below 0 degree celcius? if the water freezes it might cause some damage to the car like bursting the pipes. do they change the fluid in the system to counter this problem?
Chocomousse SG Hi lost soul, Hydraulic system runs in mineral or synthetic oil, they do not run with h2o. water is a reactive agent for corrosion to hydraulic parts. These oils have lower freezing point due to the additives in the oil. cheers
l0st-s0ul SG oh thanks for clearing it up, i dont know why i naturally associate hydraulics with water(h2o).
ditzy SG Simple, they don't run on water. They use oil or synthetic fluids with viscosities that are not/very little affected by pressure or temperature change.
