for day to day driving, fwd is good enuff, in terms of
handling..as for practicality, it saves space at the back,
contributing to more rear legroom and bootspace.. for competitive
driving, it depends more on the suspension setup.. u cant expect
sports-car-like handling from a rear-drive pick-up.. neither do u
expect all front-drive cars to handle like a mini cooper..
as for rwd, it tends to take up more space in the rear, and
contributes to a higher transmission tunnel due to the need to
accommodate a propshaft.. reducing less rear space.. if u take a
look at the new BMW 1-series, which has considerably less space in
the rear than competitors in its segment.
the benefits of such a setup is the better ride-handling balance
and weight distribution.. a rear-drive car handles better than a
front-drive one, given a similar suspension setup.. however, rwd
cars are more tricky to race.. to induce oversteer requires more
power input, rather than merely lifting off the throttle in the
case of a fwd car..
