16PF = Cattell's 16 Personality Factor profile - it's a
garden-variety personality instrument.
MMPI = Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory - a somewhat
more heavy-duty instrument, used to determine if you're a nutjob,
and if so, what kind of nutjob you are. Sections of the MMPI are
also used as a screening tool for uniformed services or anyhting to
do with firearms.
STAI = State-Trait Anxiety Inventory - used to measure your level
of anxiety, and to see if it's a short- or long-term thing.
WAIS = Weschler Adult Intelligence Scale - put simply, an IQ
test.
I'm certified to administer all of these (amongst others), but the
only one that I've touched in the last 2 years is the 16PF.
Personally, I'd rather use Raven's Standard and Advanced Pattern
Matrices instead of the WAIS to assess someone's level of
intelligence - it's quicker and less culture-biased, and it tells
me more of what I want to know.
