Is the lack of babies really due to woman being educated?

There is a statement made by LKY recently.

The point is not whether the women should be educated or not.

Cos ALL ppl should be educated.

But what kind of education are gahment giving ppl? Are we teaching ppl the right things?
What kind of environment are we living in singapore?
All these will affect the number of babies.

LKY is a politician, not an educationist. Things become a problem when ppl try to be master of all trades. Cool

Teens nowadays have very sheltered lives. They don't work to get what they deserve. The society here pretty much don't give a damn about anything. A tug and a bone makes you king.

But what kind of education are gahment giving ppl?
IMO, basic useless stuff. As a result, the kids don't know what they want/to do in life. Just anyhow choose a course even tho they don't like it. And did I mention their general knowledge simply sux? So what if you can recite the periodic table backwards? If I get a dollar everytime I hear, "really meh?" , "i didn't know that" or some stupid qns... man, I might be sitting in Atlantis sipping a pina colada right now.

Are we teaching ppl the right things?
Sure. We had ME(Moral Education) right? But who actually listens and abides them? Society influences and moulds its people into what they are. I've to say I'm lucky enough to fall out of the crib last time. Teaching alone is not enough, guidance have to be brought in.

And all these does not contributes to the lack of babies. Laughing

The point here is that women are not like the women last time.
Women are expected to be superwomen now! They are suppose to multi-task and yet women have high expectation on themselves.

There are several issues to the reason why women are not having more children and sometimes it's not only a women's decision but also her SPOUSE.

But LKY is correct by saying that the point is not whether the women should be educated or not.

It's overall due to environment, the standard of living, the memories that we have as a child, and the time that we can actually SPEND on our child, etc. All these affects both the men's and women's decision on whether they would want children.

There're also things like higher living standards, mentality of living adults in the new generation etc... It really can be quite a complex social issue...

Well.. yes.
I do believe that. Simply cos a woman with the opportunity to be educated usually belongs to a society where she also can exercise more choice.

If she has the power of choice and can exercise it in the form of contraceptives or other birth control method, then it means a woman doesn't have to be pregnant when she doesn't want to be.

Compare that to many women in rural farming communities who may not have the chance to understand what choices they have, definitely have no opportunity to be educated and have no understanding or no supply of birth control methods, then you have young brides who give birth when they are 14, nursing their third child by 20 and grandmothers by 35.

Between a population explosion and an aging population, we have a fine line to walk. Just women having more babies doesn't provide a solution.

All married women I think want security,

The more educated city woman may look more in terms of "costs" involve which affect the family current lifestyle.

A not so educated village or country woman may prefer an enlarged family to sort of "anchor" her position and maybe even use it to preassure & distract her man to provide for many mouths fearful otherwise he may get a mistress outside.

I think different security perspective. One looks at cost to lifestyle, other looks at status.

Even if the education of woman bring about the lack of babies, I will choose to educate them anyway. Everyone deserves an education regardless of sex, race or background.

The point is not education. It is educating the right things.

Also whether the environment is conducive. The pilots who went for overseas training becomes more "productive" Mr. Green I believe the environment is less stressful, so they becomes more "productive".
Also the cost of living, with the cost of education playing a significant factor. But the cost of education is expecting to rise Confused
