Try not to get a COE car.

Road Tax goes up every year by 10% up to a maximum of 150% on the 5th yr of the extension. A 1.6l COE car would easily cost you ard $1.7-1.8k rd tax.

Additional concern is the Loan for COE Car usually interest it at least 3.8% up to 4.6% depending on Banks / Financial Inst etc.

Also the maintenance for such cars are usually more expensive as wear & tear would be significant. Expect to have to fork out additional $$$ every time you go for your routine svs as things starts to spoil(wear & tear). Fuel Consumption would also not be good as most of these cars are on carbruettor. You might not get more than 10km/l even for a Light-Footer.

This is not always true.It depends on the condition of the car,how the previous owner maintained it and in turn how you maintain it.

Im driving a 12 yr old car and im getting 16km/litre easily.

Though,im not saying its better to get a COE car.Of course,if you have the funds,its always better to get a newer car.But people on a budget,getting a COE car is not exactly too bad a deal.You just have to pick the right one and pay more attention in maintaining it. Razz

Why go for COEd car when new cars are so affordable nowadays? The lowest end car is going for a song at about $50k and you need to come out only about 3k cash, comparable to used car. New car interest rate is also much lower and most of all, its brand new, no history, no hidden tales.

Roger that argument. I've been told that COE cars literally have no value at resale, so when buying COE cars, least look out for the cars with high COE abt ~ $30k, rather than the usual$18,444.. when you want to scrap the vehicle, you still have your COE value to offset your bank loan..

If you have a choice, dun go for the $18444 COE car. The current value is only around $12910. However, these COE cars till 8/2011 are still selling more than $20k, especially, Civic EGs and Corolla AE101.

If any serious damage occur to the car, you are only paid the COE rebate value when de-registered. If you think you can drive for a few years and sell away easily, you are wrong. Dealers will only makan your car at or close to scrap value. To the banks or credit company, no matter how much modification you have put into the car, they will still look at your paper value during loan application.

erm if u kana a serious accident ur car (Paf Car) need to be scrape, it is also the same, u will only get back the OMV or at a loss of 30% (IF I AM NOT WRG) i think the amount will aso be as high as 10 over K or maybe MORE ...

COE car, will be a better option for P plate driver ..kana accident not so heart pain, cheap insurance. tis solely are my own view, COE or PAF all got pro n con jus on how u weight out the pro n con. some prefer COE as it is only meant as a form of transport wif lower depreciation rate.

i dun mean tat PARF car are no gd, if given a choice i would also like to drive a new car rather den a old car, but in SG ....kinda tough as it living standard is high

Efizzig Motor Traders is a pretty reputable COE car trader to go for if you wanna buy a COE car.
Think they have about 6 outlets in Singapore.
