Singapore’s very own comic-con is celebrating 10 years of games,
toys and comics
Unless you already have a flight ticket, it might be a bit of a
stretch to head to the mecca of all comic-cons in San Diego
happening right now. But take heart, because Singapore's very
own Singapore Toy, Game and Comic
Convention (STGCC) is returning to Sands Expo and
Convention Center on Sep 9-10 to celebrate 10
years of awesome games, toys and comics under one roof.
For two days, three halls at the Sands Expo will turn into a
melting pot of pop culture, filled to the brim with famous comic
and manga artists, local and regional cosplayers, die-hard
collectors, anime creators, toy designers, soundtrack composers and
more.
Following last year’s highly successful “STGCC eSports - Mountain
Dew Cup”, the convention's first PC gaming tournament, the team is
dedicating an entire hall for the gaming scene at STGCC this year,
showcasing big- and small-time regional, international and local
game publishers (read: unreleased games!). You can expect lots of
sweat and tears, and the occasional "Nice one lah!" being shouted across at the
participating teams in the various tournaments. There'll also be
tabletop game tournaments for the likes of Pokemon Trading Card
Game, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Final
Fantasy Trading Card Game. And if hardcore gaming isn’t your
thing, you can head over to the Chillax Zone and challenge your
buddies on console and VR games.
There’ll also be a dedicated area for cosplayers, musicians and
their fans to hang out. The Akiba Zone, inspired by the sleepless
high energy electric town in Japan, will see popular Japanese DJs,
beauty brands for cosplay makeup and STGCC’s cosplay guests—Leon
Chiro, Shimo, Siutao and Iori Moe—setting up shop here.
Also on the line-up are renowned illustrator and
animator Hiro
Kanzaki, who’s making an appearance at his first
convention outside of Japan, fan favorite and Marvel comic book
artist Adi
Granov (his most notable works include
the Iron Man:
Extremis series and his role as conceptual designer and
illustrator on the Iron
Man films and The Avengers), Italian
rising DC comics artist Mirka
Andolfo (Wonder
Woman, Ms.
Marvel, and Green
Arrow are just some of the series she’s worked on), comic
cover artist and writer Arthur Adams, the
Emmy-nominated David Mack, who’s responsible
for the covers of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods and Chuck
Pahlahniuk’s Fight Club
2, as well as co-creating deaf Marvel superhero Echo, and
co-founder of tokidoki and annual fan favorite, Simone Legno.
