I agree, Hakka in Sg needs revival. Hi everyone, I belongs to the
Dabu Hakka group but I guess mine is more towards the Moiyen.
Anyway, I used to be good in Hakka dialect when I was much younger
but as time goes by, I lost touch with it when opportunity of
speaking it got lesser and lesser.
I understand that Hakka dialect has got 7 different tones, which
are 3 more tones than Mandarin. It is not difficutl to find
articles on the tones over the Internet but I just couldn't find
any audio or video files that teach these tones. I am sure knowing
these tones will greatly aid in the learning of Hakka. Would be so
glad if someone can point me to a link that has these files:)
Thanks!
One site I find rather useful:
http://host.ryjh.tyc.edu.tw/~ryjh088/frame/frame_gau3.htm
We should help each other in helping to continue the dialects.
Only minority Hakka not usually found in Singapore has 7 tones,
whereas usual Dabu Hakka & Moiyen Hakka have 6 tones.
Hope you are able to pursue your Hakka courses at the associations
and update us when that happens.
