'Owen open to Toon move'
Friday August 12 2005
Michael Owen has not ruled out a move to Newcastle despite their
lack of European football, according to reports.
The Sun says that the England striker is keeping an open mind about
the north-east club as he looks for a way out of Real Madrid, where
he is facing a season as fifth-choice striker.
He would link up with his former international teammate Alan
Shearer and would be guaranteed a first-team place.
Owen's first and second choices were thought to be Manchester
United and Liverpool, but a move to either looks unlikely.
Newcastle are the only club willing to meet Real's £11m asking
price, and it looks like Owen could take a year out of Europe to
get regular football.
Meanwhile, a report in the Daily Mail suggests that Newcastle could
finally sign Luis Boa Morte from Fulham for £6m. -
